Going to an appt for a new Pdoc!

Posted by TexasChic on July 2, 2007, at 15:57:48

Wish me luck. I had to fill out an unbelievably long questionnaire beforehand, so maybe that's a sign that he's thorough. I should be able to get a new T there too.

I hope this is a good thing, I'm nervous! What if he's one of those "NO XANAX EVER!!!" doctors? Ever since I had a bad experience with a doc many, many years ago, I'm always scared about that.

I'll let yall know how it goes.

I hope it goes well - I am trying another pdoc at the end of this month (this present one is a dud). I know how hard it is to go in and leave our preconceptions at the door; all it takes is one bad experience with a doctor and I know that I'm spooked.

Fingers and toes crossed for you, TC.

Well, it went okay I suppose. He was a fast talker, but he answered my questions. He showed me a chart with the amount of dopomain (sp) and seretonin in all the meds and how zoloft would be better than my present combo of prozac and wellbutrin. When I told him I tried it 10 years ago and it was okay but not great, he said they didn't know they had to use a higher dosage back then. So I told him my only concern is a while back I made the switch to Lexapro and my doc made me stay on it for 6 months and it was horrible. He said, oh, that's because Lexapro has the lowest dopomain of all! Then he added that most people gain weight on Prozac and loose on Zoloft so then I was like, okay, okay I'll do it! I do remember Zoloft working fairly well way back then, so maybe a higher dose is the answer. Oh, and he gave me the Xanax Rx too. Yea!

So I have to go back in a week, and he said I should be feeling a difference by then (which goes against everything I've ever heard, so we'll see). Plus he wants me to take a glucose test - he said I may need to adjust my diet (I'm sure I do!). So we'll see how things progress. I'll keep yall posted.

T don't want to burst your bubble but that's what happened to me when I moved here the pdoc wanted higher doses of all antidepressants. I went back to old one as the doses exceeded the companies recommended doseages . And from what I've heard from lots of people the docs like to start at lower doseages as then there are less side effects and hence the patient is more likely to continue the med. I hope it works out for you though. Love Phillipa

hey, that sounds like a pretty good plan. Most people I know lose weight on zoloft too - at least at first.
In fact, some physician friends of mine take zoloft to lose weight.

I hope it helps you to feel better too

Lose weight on zoloft? I didn't have side effects on that one at 50mg . Maybe instead of lexapro I should try that next. Just added cytomel to my synthoid thyroid will not stabalize. Oh I just remembered the insert on the synthroid says don't take with zoloft. That makes no sense why only one SSRI???? Can you answer that one seriously. Love Phillipa ps the synthroid leaflet says valium no either but the endo said I can take it even at the same time. I don't get it as the phamphet with the synthroid lists meds out of all categories as not to take with it. Google synthoid you'll see what I mean. Love Phillipa well T at least you're not on synthroid.

Thanks everyone!

I appreciate all the support! I'm going to try to keep an open mind and see how it all goes. New pdocs are always stressful, even if they're good. Now my next challenge is a new T! Even more stressful! But at least I've got my Xanax now, so maybe I can lay off the wine (and all those calories!).

Other than that things are going OK I guess. I was actually feeling rather crappy yesterday; physically bad, irritable and depressed about money problems, so I took half a vacation day. I'm off today too, so its a nice little mini vacation. The week after next is going to be really busy and stressful at work, so I'm trying to prepare myself for that. Today I'll just try to relax.

Can it possibly be because of the meds already? I've only taken two doses, but I feel really upbeat and energetic! So now I'm going to tackle all this work I have to do today. Hope this good feeling lasts!

Okay, now I'm feeling a little panicky

I went from feeling GREAT to feeling like I'm about to explode! It started to freak me out a bit, but then I remembered that you get these types of temporary side effects when you start new meds. So now that I've identified it I feel better. I left my Xanax at home, but can always go get it at lunch if absolutely neccessary.

Yeah, it can be quite a roller coaster at first. I always feel safer if I have one xanax pill in my purse, even if I don't use it.
Weird having a day off in the middle of the week, though, eh?

take care
