Basically it's a virtual simulation of real life (without the limitations of course), there's no game plan as such unless you make one, and that's part of the fun - much like in real life. You'll find everything there, and all different types of people doing their thing of course, whatever that may be. The good thing about SecondLife is that you can teleport out of any place that makes you feel uncomfortable. It can be fun, scary, downright sinister or boring - whatever you choose to make it.

I had that problem too, it turned out to be my antivirus software (Norton Antivirus) that was responsible. I switched to another program and it's been fine ever since. Depends on your system capabilities too of course.

i've often thought about running one of those 'phone lines' right out of my house (hey, there's nothign wrong with that. i do have a FANTASTIC voice, you know!). and it would be after kids were in bed.

The exchange rate for buying Linden dollars is about 1 Linden dollar to 0.004 US dollars. Very poor in other words. I think they also place a tax levy on changing Linden dollars into real currency, but I don't know for sure since I've never had cause to try.

I'll log on and see if you've been born yet. First you go to help island with all the other newbies, not sure if people older than 30 days are allowed to visit again once they've left. on my way to becoming a crack head, prostitute, pervert and so much more :) gosh, all the stuff i wanted to do in real life but always lived in too small a town (thank god). well, the pervert part is still up for debate. and i've had people tell me i dress like a prostitute (though i wasn't offended by that. is that odd? sometimes they have remarkable shoes and such short skirts, it's amazing!)

Yes, my compter came close to being thrown out the window too (low tolerance of frustration). There must be a way out of this though.
Your avatar is free so I don't understand why you don't have one.....hmmmm the icon thing that keeps crashing might be the reason. SecondLife is notoriously prone to crashing, but I'd expect you to be able to log on at least once? Is there a special error message (saying you don't have certain drivers/plugins installed), or do you just get the 'SecondLife appears to have crashed, do you want to send a report' box? This problem seems to be worse in the newbie area because there are so many people moving about - overloads the system. It gets better when you're out in the 'real' world. Unfortunately I'm nowhere near as computer literate as you might think, and I've forgotten what went on in the startup procedure. Hopefully Dr. Noodle will be able to use her wiles and come to the rescue?
Never mind, there's a bottle of Absinthe and lashings of virtual coke waiting in Crack Alley to soothe kk's frazzled nerves.

i reloaded the program again and had to take it off by the evening...
it runs way to slow..so i end up double clicking everything jamming everything up and freezing it...
mcafee might be the problem but it catches trojan and worms atleast once a month...
i am stuck some where in arts and culture land dancing like a whore...

anyway to speed the program along without disarming my virus protection?

I use a different antivirus program - I'll babblemail you the address. The hacker tried to attack my computer (address book and photo album all messed up) so I decided to change the software. I'm reluctant to post which one I'm using on the board for that reason...

with a website or simple free blog can get anyones ip address if they go there.
i am worried about clicking links here to "personal" pic and sites.
an ip address contains your full names and real address..
you can just as easily get a untracable ip address, or bounce.

I just sent you another. You should get an alert saying I'm offering you friendship with two buttons - 'accept' or 'decline'. If you click on 'accept' it sets up an IM connection and I can offer to teleport you from wherever you are.
In the bottom left hand corner thee should be a purple button with 'IM' on it. That's the instant message button. If you click on it my screen name should be in there (after you've accepted the friendship offer of course). Double click on my screen name to open up an instant message session. Then you're ready to go!

Maybe you can't see your avatar because your camera is stuck in an odd position? You can manipulate it by holding down the 'alt' key on your keyboard and clicking on the body part you want to view (my favourite feature) with your mouse, then swivel it around. Alternatively, there's an option in the 'View' menu at the top of the screen called 'Camera Controls' - click on it and you should see a set of compass-like controls pop up in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Play around with them and you'll get an idea of what does what.
