this has always bothered me...
just why does superman wear his underwear on the outside of his pants? (we won't even go there on the fact that they are tights)

I think it's more of a fashion statement. Kind of like "Look at me! I'm all powerful! I even wear my underwear outside my pants! Now if that doesn't get your attention, then nothing I do will!"
