just so you aren't feeling ignored, i haven't a clue. i live in indiana (where pretty much everyone is about as close to homeless as homeless can be :) so, if you're interested in helping the needy, you can always send me some sand?

honestly though, when i've traveled (rarely), i've never heard of such things. i know they prefer you not feed birds in public. and i do know that in certain towns, they send homeless on their way with bus tickets to other states. one way, that is. suppose that's one way of fixing the problem of homeless close to home?

I've been told that feeings are FEELINGS.

They are neither right now wrong. It's what we DO with (or about) them that is right or wrong.

But feelings just ARE.

I read that in a Canadian paper also. I believe it was in one town, but they mentioned other places as well.

I didn't get the impression that it was all over the place but it's a pretty darned disturbing thought.

You have to have enough parking (at least here where I live in Florida where the homeless tents are legally slashed by the police) at a facility where homeless are fed.
Honest to god.

it did make me laugh to be called a bigot though, for what it's worth. i'm not trying to be insensitive, uncivil or all of the above. just honest.

LOL I think it's funny you think I'm a bigot. To imply there are no wrongs, and that hating anyone is, no matter how wrong of a person they are, is wrong.

the way you had that bleeped that someone called me a b#tch.

i thought 'well, how'd i screw up there? i know i didn't come across that way!' (or perhaps i did? oh well, who cares anyway? and NO that is not a manipulation stating that i want people to come bowing at my feet stating "I CARE I CARE!" i just want to see a cat and flamingo fight. is there really anything wrong with that?)

Yes, our tent cities (citizens donated tents so the homeless would have some protection from the elements if they couldn't get into shelters) have been making news for some time now.
At one point the police department decided that the tents constituted fire hazards, and they slashed them apart.

And the person who tried to have their own soup kitchen for the homeless was closed down because the city said he had to provide parking spaces (as if it was a restaurant). It was such an embarrassment for the city to have such ineffective ordinances being enforced.

A bad case of NIMB (not in my backyard).

Hmm... I bet Don Imus would have an opinion, if he hadn't been removed from the air. (And I wouldn't have wanted to hear his opinion, either.)

I think it is a serious deterioration of our society on a grand scale. A view of entitlement versus social responsibility. And I think that our political representatives dance around the real issues, as deftly as they can, so that the real core issues are not addressed.

Issues like bigotry. Racism. Misogyny. Discrimination of ALL types. The scales, as they say, fell from my eyes when I moved to Florida. At no other time in my life have I been witness to such outright expressions of intolerance, of so many kinds, from so many people. In every place I worked, I discovered such intolerances. It sickened me greatly.
I do believe that the discovery contributed in part to my fall with depression. So see so bare-facedly, the true nature of your neighbours and coworkers... it scared me to death.

At the same time I believe that such attitudes and opinions can be educated into obliteration. Which is partly why I appreciate the stringent civility guidelines here.

Yes I see your point. You know how I keep saying I want to nurse again? Well from what I've heard lately the grass always looks greener on the other side. Love Phillipa terrible medical care no doc knows a thing it's specialist to specialist where they bilk your money. The boomers will have nothing. Guess I better watch it or this will end up on a board I have no intention of going to.

Karen

It was something I posted in anger and regretted immediately. (There were these connections in my mind.)
It is best to live our lives so we have less to regret.
Michael had a legitimate question.

Maybe I've seen too many films where disparagement of the less fortunate is justified.

One of the (few) advantages of a class system over a meritocracy is that failure is judged less harshly.
