Two Job Interviews Tomorrow

Posted by Poet on February 19, 2007, at 15:50:28

I'm trying very hard not to throw negativity into the universe, but I've been through this so many times before. One of them seems like something I would be good at and would require knowledge that I have from one of my classes. The other one would hopefully lead to what I am taking classes to be. Either way I would be doing something that uses my brain and even though the first one is part-time, it would probably pay what I'm making on unemployment. Cross your fingers. Do dances. Ask the universe to grant me the job that is right for me. I am trying hard to send out positive vibes which isn't easy for negative me. Cancel that negative. Positive me.

Two Job Interviews Today

Posted by Poet on February 20, 2007, at 13:42:41

In reply to Two Job Interviews Tomorrow, posted by Poet on February 19, 2007, at 15:50:28

I was about ten minutes late to the first one- freeway traffic was horrid so I had to take side streets. I called her and told her I was running late and she didn't seem to notice I should have already been there. So maybe I ended up calling attention to it, but at least she knows being late bothered me. I would like to work there, only one fulltime person and three part time, very quiet. I would have to deal with some of the general public, but they'd be looking for specific information or forms. I can use a calculator to make change if they buy a form or use the copiers. She said she'd make a decision within a week.

Nothing about interview one cared me, I just left with the feeling that I was late and therefore blew it.

Second interview I meet with three people, one of which seemed abrupt, but I would have little contact with him. They did emphasis that I have no experience in their field (well, I did, but I don't mention working for five weeks and getting fired) but they also said that with training I would catch on. It would be using a lot of forms to do documents and I know I can do that. They use WordPerfect, which I haven't used in a decade or more, but I can relearn. I hope I impressed them with my willingness to learn and desire for experience in the field. He said he was making a decision within 24 hours, so one way or another I'll soon know. I hope he calls as I've been waiting years to hear back from interviewers who say they're calling tomorrow.

I know I could do either job. Keep those fingers crossed that the one that is right for me is the one that hires me.

Great job for making it through Poet! I'm crossing my fingers and toes that youll hear back something positive very soon.

Just for the record, I was once 15 minutes late for a job interview because mapquest led me wrong, and I got the position. So dont worry too much about that! It doesnt sound like the interviewer was terribly stressed about it. :)

Hoping for you!

Keeping you in my thoughts & sending positive vibes.

Don't worry about the late thing. You called; that was the important thing, I think. Don't worry that you drew attention to it by phoning. Phoning was the responsible thing to do & I think that was important.

Best of luck, Kath

Its easy to get discouraged when doing the whole job interview thing. You just have to keep in mind that its the nature of the beast. The whole situation is just not a positive life affirming type thing. You have to get your positives elsewhere.

In fact its really downright weird the way you have to 'sell' yourself and all that. So don't think theres something wrong with you if you come out of it feeling like a complete idiot. That's one thing learned, its all a performance. Nobody could really take all that bru-ha-ha seriously. "I'm a team player who thrives on problem solving" - I mean really. You just have to learn to talk the talk. Of course this will vary according to how corporate your job is, but memorizing a few key (but asinine) phrases like that will help. Just make sure you actually understand what you're saying and can back it up with examples.

I have personally found that studying interviewing techniques and strategies can be a great help. Its basically just putting all the things you want to say about yourself in a certain preferred format.

Didn't Get Job 2

at least he called as promised. I keep telling myself it doesn't matter, I still have job one and I won't hear about that one until next week. I always tell myself things don't matter, but they do. I can't take much more rejection. I really can't.

Keep sending those positive vibes, I need all the help I can get trying to remain positive.

Thanks for caring.

I tend to pretend to myself that I don't care about things to avoid emotional pain.

I hope you get the other one. It's hard to NOT be affected by disappointment. I think job hunting is one of the very hardest things to do! Not that I've done much but I think it can be very very discouraging. Hoping you'll get Job #2 & won't need to worry.

Are you still looking for more places to be interviewed?

Keeping you in my thoughts & sending you positive vibes.

luv, Kath

Hang in there Poet.

Not getting jobs really sucks...and is unfortunately all too common. (See my note about socialism on the Students board. Wouldn't that make things easier?)

I'm sorry. I know it really hurts the ego not to get a job you apply for.

take care,
