I don't think I was having a very happy Australia Day. The whole thing had been giving me dyspepsia (see my post about it on the Politics Board), but hearing this from you both is much nicer....not only good wishes from Merri, but just as good, PJ hasn't heard of it :)

sounds like a good time to me :D

I hope you have a great day Declan and all.

I wonder if she tossed her thong today.

I find that image disturbing.

Thong tossing (of the old-fashioned sort) may be a tradition here.
Could you be referring to that?
Or some other sort of thong tossing I can only dimly guess at?

She may accept a diplomatic posting, but as a (what passes these days for a) humane Liberal, is unlikely to get Washington.

What is the old type of thong?

For me, thong is a most-uncomfortable-looking-but-sexy type of underwear!

:-) Kath

I guess my mind is really going - I know there's an 'original meaning' for thong, but I can't remember what it is.

Hi Kath
The traditional thong has a similar structure to the newer sort but is worn on the foot.
There is a thin bit of rubber that goes between the big toe and the rest, and the whole assemblage is made of rubber. Kinda like a sandal.
I find it hard to imagine Amanda Vanstone in a thong throwing competition with the newer sort, but who knows? I lead a very protected existence.

Oh of COURSE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now THAT is scarey! I knew there was another meaning for it & I could NOT remember. That's the first time that this has happened.

Oh well.....

:-) Kath

PS - the funny thing is that when I read thong-throwing contest, I totally imagined the 'undies' type of thong. Got to thinking ' how do they manage THAT - maybe nudity is legal there!'

Upper-body nudity is legal in Ontario. For a good few years now, women have been free to appear bare-topped in Ontario. There was a court case in which a woman won the right. I think she was nursing her baby in her back yard & was charged & won the case. For a bit right after that case was won, apparently a few young, firm, curvy women (probably late teens) took advantage of their newfound freedom!

I can remember my husband & son saying what a great idea they thought it was until I told them that I thought it would be great to lie on the beach half-bare & soak up the sun - so relaxing & comfortable. They were VERY quick to say that NO - they did NOT think that was a great idea!! LOL
