So where do you think technology is headed?

Posted by TexasChic on January 14, 2007, at 17:09:19

From phone with digital camera with instant messaging with email with internet with portable DVD player with TV! From Tivo with High definition TV with Digital Cable with DVD player with DVD recorder with personal computer with security system. Car with DVD player with phone with navigation system. Computer with DVD player with recorder with email.

I see this as someday being all combined. I mean, I noticed right away that Tivo on your TV is like a hard drive on your computer, with recordable DVD's being like CD's to record something portable. It's all the same thing!

So what will be the end product?

P.S. No, I'm not high. I just think about these things sometimes.

The end product is a port just behind our ears that connects to an implanted neural stimulator. It will be nicknamed "The Cranial Accessory XIII"

We can all just sit in our little nutrient broth recliners and plug ourselves in to experience a virtual world that is at once indistinguishable from the actual world and yet enables all the sensations ever conceived by the human imagination. All is well until a circuit fries, or we experience a power surge.

Psycho-Babble will be a real, virtual place where we will all be able to post things on our Avatar's forehead.

Persons with altered or atypical neural systems will no longer be treated by pdocs, but rather by outsourced tech support who will run diagnostics, much as our car engines are diagnosed.

Therapy will be conducted by data analysts. We will upload our troubles onto a server and they will sort through everything, find the connections between different events and emotions. Then we can download our solutions for a standard monthly subscription.

Of course, the data analysts themselves will reside in an undisclosed location, to prevent transferent clients from trying to share nutrient broth recliners.

It's not that far away. really!

My Cranial Accessory XII is still in beta-testing, but so far so good. I haven't been blocked yet, have I?

Actually I was thinking more of a Computer/Phone/Camera/Email/Internet/TV/DVD Player/Tivo/Navigation System/Security type combo in a neat little package. But yours sounds better.

Apple's iphone is scary good.

I graduated high school in '71. I went to district in typing on a manual, not electric, typewriter. We didn't have a copier, we had the mimeograph machine...sniffff. Quaint.

Next 100 years will be a trip if we don't ruin the planet or blow each other up by then.

Oh yeah, I walked 4 miles to school uphill, in the snow, all the way.

Yeah that's pretty much what instigated my post.

'88 for me, but I remember the mimeograph! sniffff. Remember that scene form Fast Times At Ridgemont High?

We may eradicate the human race but I think the planet will be here lon-n-n-ng after. We're nothing but a nasty virus to the earth. We'll just clear out everything so that life can begin anew.

Yeah, yeah, yeah! Heh heh!

I'm glad I still have to empty out my pencil sharpener about every other month or so.

I believe technology will eventually replace the human race. Not to get all sci-fi on ya. But the terminator and Battlestar Galatica are not that far off in the future. Artificial intelligence will be born this century and then who knows what will happen. Nano technology could literally wipe the human race and all life on this planet in 7 days! Its called the Grey Goo scenario. Look it up. Anything created for good can be used for evil. I apologize for my pessemistic outlook, my disease seems to be acting up today.
