What do you do with this? :( **trigger** probably

Posted by gardenergirl on September 11, 2006, at 21:45:21

(Wow, three in a row from me....that's got to be a first!)

So, what do you do with something like this?

There's this significant thing. And someone goes to talk about it--talk about the gravity and the signficance and all, at least I assume. Being an emotional, empathetic kind of gal, to me it's about the people. That's the significance and gravity of the thing. So okay, that someone talks about the people for a bit. So far so good; a nice message.

But then they go on and on about other crap.

Then they take that nice, significant, and meaningful message, and they knock it down.

What do you do while they kick it while down?

Stomp on it a bit?

Pour gasoline on it?

Light it on fire?

Laugh as it burns?

Lie that it's not burning?

Piss on it while they pump their fists in the air?

I'm disgusted. I'm angry. And other than wondering what the consequences of delivering a forehead flick, feeling rather helpless about it all.

Best I can do for now, come what may.

gg

"Can you say more about this? You seem very angry..."

I like the forehead flick though. Seems appropriate for whatever bs is happening to you. I had a class in analytic symbolism this weekend. Your post is a humdinger. :)

I'd be tempted to tell them exactly what I thought of them. If I did though I would probably be history, being a delicate butterfly :o(

That abstract ideals are meaningless without the human context, therefore the people really are the important part.

But really, I think you'd better count me as another vote for the forehead flick...

Thanks. It's pretty much a word by word account of my reaction in the moment. Kinda startled my husband.

About all I can say is that I was watching someone make a speech, and I was really angry about what I heard. I'm primed to be angry about it, though. But this was over the top, imo. I can't give any more details, since I don't wish to offend those who might have a different reaction. I realize I was pretty graphic and very clear how I felt. :)

Hubby and I argued about the forehead flick, btw. I really do want to know what the likely consequences would be. He thought it was too silly to talk about, and I think felt that I was making light. I told him that a FF was about the only thing I could do to make any real impact. I can't punch the person out, because 1) I don't punch people; 2) I'd probably miss by a mile and actually hurt myself; and 3) I'd probably be hauled away and perhaps given a psychiatric evaluation since I have a mental disorder. Besides, that's not really the feeling I have. It's more of a dope-slap kind of thing versus an anger/violent kind of thing, if there is a difference.

I've tried letters and emails. I would probably turn my back, but I really do think the FF would truly express what I think and how I feel. I kinda imagine the father might do that either metaphorically or perhaps even actually, though. Or the wife? :)

And of course there is also the issue that the speaker won't give a hoot about my reaction, anyway. So it's just for me. Not worth getting arrested and put on a list about (probably already on a list--darn those membership cards!).

>:^0

gg, who's going to do something positive for change tonight. No FF's in sight.

I suppose it would depend on who was around and what was said. But protect those feathers. (is that what they are?) Wings don't work so well without them.

Done. But I might need you to be a character witness or to bail me out. :)

Hi gardenergirl. I just about freaked out when I read your post. read this part that you wrote over again.

Okay, and now read this thing that I posted mere minutes earlier on the psychology board yesterday

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/psycho/20060911/msgs/685154.html

notice any similarity in the language, the words used, the images? I know that gasoline and kicking are common idioms, but still. I read your post and I was totally freaked out that you were either referring to me?? or possibly primed by me to think strong thoughts. A trigger of sorts.

I'm SO glad that you decided to explain yourself more fully. Now I know what you're reacting to. I avoided the mass media yesterday for exactly this reason.

I suppose our two simultaneous posts are an example of strange coincidence. Great minds thinking alike, or as my husband says "great mind[s] feel alike" I like his version better.

Anyways, thanks for explaining. I would have been scratching my head all day today (at the very least(, and maybe getting a freak out reaction, or worse.

See, I thought you were reacting to something else...

Forget the forehead flick. On this one, the burning bag of dog droppings on the porch, or maybe chocolate pudding in the pillow.

You know those little Baby Ruth bars? The minis? Wait until speaker goes swimming, throw a dozen in the pool near him...

Ipecac in his Jello.

Duct tape him to a chair, with a gag, and explain you won't let him up until he develops a mature and compassionate view of humanity.

Public flogging.

I'm going to stop now. Like Lurp, though, I avoided any chance of seeing such things. I can honestly tell you, Law & Order reruns have a useful place in this world...

By the way, yesterday was the 23rd anniversary of my beloved grandmother's death. She died at 8:10AM Pacific Daylight Time, with me on one side of her bed, and my aunt on the other. We'd been with her since about 6AM, after the nurse called to say her vital signs were changing, and they thought this was the end. My anniversary grief... (Wonder if that explains some of my recent depression? Doubt it, though...)

Holy moly, that is freaky! And so close in time...

Maybe we have a psychic connection.

Glad you were helped by my explanation. I think you were wise to avoid the media blitz. And sorry that you've got something that evokes such strong words and images, too. :(

Take care,

gg

I'm glad I stuck to my policy of not watching, ever. If gg got this upset, I would have had a stroke and died. Keeled over dead, and a number of people IRL would have been devastated.
