I just need to communicate this

Posted by Racer on September 7, 2006, at 15:45:31

My neighbor is learning to play the electric bass. It drives me crazy. I want to go over there and rip it out of his hands to make it stop. I want to yell, "STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT!!!"

I'm told beginning bagpipers are worse. I don't care. I just want this to stop.

ARGH! IT'S GETTING EVEN WORSE!!! (nm)

First of all I empathize.. the walls in my building are so thin I can actually hear my next door neighbour snore at night, and of course when his girlfriend is over, I hear other things
that I really wish I didn't, especially because I've seen them both, and I get the whole mental picture.

A guy I used to work with had neighbours below him who blasted music day and night, he'd complained and complained, then he developed a sudden yearning to learn tapdancing. :D

I love stories like that.

Get a staple gun and tack up rugs on your walls.
Get your neighbour to do the same.
Bill the condo association for the rugs and staple gun.
Hah!

I think there's a way he can plug in a headset and he hears the "music" he creates, but no one else does. That way only he would suffer.

I once had an apartment with walls so thin.... (how thin were they?) that I could hear my neighbour turn over in her sleep.
And I could tell when she'd eaten chili for dinner.
Yuck!

Thank you, that certainly put the bass player into perspective! And it made me laugh, to boot.

The noise is still going on. Honestly -- I'd prefer living by the drummer down the hall...

At my old apartment I would hear my neihbor's (I just can't spell that word!!!!!) girlfriend every time she coughed. I never could figure that out. Why when she coughed but not when they talked?

I also have to admit my downstair's neighbor (did I say I can't spell that word?) probabley hates me. I lived upstairs at my Grandmother's house and my family was always talking about how I STOMP. Of course, I felt I was walking normal. However, I do remember people in my past talking about how hard I walk (even when I was skinny!). What the hell is wrong with me??? The only reason I live on the second floor is because my cat can sit on the patio without escaping, and the stairs give me inforced exercise. Otherwise I would live on the groundfloor out of respect for others.

Oh! I could also always hear when my previous downstair's neihgbor played his heavy metal on Saturday nights. I was always trying to figure out what the song was, but I could only hear the beat. I should have tried to hang with him, he was cute.

Oh, one night my neighbor was having a fight with her boyfriend right outside my front door, which means right at the head of my bed. I had to get up and 4AM the next morning and agonized and agonized about getting up and saying something to them. I know they would have gone inside and been perfectly cool about it, but I guess I still have that 'treat others better than yourself' attitude hanging on. Arggg! Why did I have to get so hung up on the 'meek' part of religious childhood??? Okay, I guess I got other things out of it too. But still, some people have a natural inclination to being 'meek', which means promoting that ideal can actually cause harm.

Listen to me, what am I talking about? Sorry, my mind is going round and round from work and I'm trying to work off that mental energy. I'm so going to dream repetitive dreams about work tonight.

Best use of a basketball...

... I found, when I lived in the dorm, was to bounce it off of whatever surface was between you and someone being too noisy. Walls. Floor. Ceiling.

... if they live a couple doors down, you can take the basketball and bounce it directly against their door.

Do you think my Pilates ball would work? (65 cm) (nm) » finelinebob

I always hated the fact that my upstairs neighbors have squeaky floors. I can hear them walking around. There are a couple of girls too. It was really bad a few years ago, but since they turned double digits, the gymnastics has evolved into stomping and running rather than major seismic events followed by pitter pater of 10,000 fleeing deer.

I think one of the reasons why I feel disoriented is because they moved out 2 weeks ago. I hear occasional footsteps of the maintenance guys painting and whatnot, but I never realized how I had habituated to the squeaking sounds that meant that the mom of the girls was going to bed (between 11-11:30 at night, when I usually do too)

or when she got up in the morning, which was usually between 7 and 8.

I think this had become part of my internal clock too. I miss them already (plus, they were a really sweet family)
