Don't Know If This Where To Post This PTSD

Posted by Phillipa on June 15, 2006, at 21:57:27

Today my husband went to check out a job and I was with him. It was a car dealership. My first husband was General Manager of one all the 21 years of our marriage. He cheated on me with the Office Manager, and did horrible things. never home for dinner or spent time with our kids. As I was on the car lot it all came back to me. Now I feel sick . Could this be PTSD and should I encourage or discourage him to take job. I would be going with him as his helper. He does auto body work. Thanks I'm really freaking out and need your help. Love Phillipa

I think this is something that your therapist can help you process. For me, I had to protect myself and keep away from triggering situations until I was better prepared. I'm not there yet, and when it happens I am blindsided.

I wouldn't jump in to this without some guidance.
Take care

I've been wondering about PTSD too. It wasn't until someone here mentioned that they thought they might have it because of their childhood that it occured to me that I might have it. I looked it up on the following link. It helped me understand a little better.

Hi Phillipa,

Clear Skies comments sound good.

If he does get this job & you're his assistant, it'll be a different situation, so it will probably feel different.

It sounds like 'feeling-memories' flooded back & it was a big shock for you.

Kath that's what happened I was sitting in the car lot and all of a sudden all I could think about the 21years I'd spend with this man. And he always worked on a car lot. I even took my Son as a boy to the dealership as he said he would be working our boat and he wasn't there. He was out drinking with another woman. My poor Son didn't know what to think But he knew. I tried to convince him not to take the job. But he needs to see for himself that working outside in the heat with no air condioning on pavement is intolerable. Love Phillipa

Hi. I've had PTSD issues. Group therapy helped me to identify the origins.. they are from my childhood abandonment issues.. My parents left me to live with relatives at various times. I grew up reacting severely to the situation where I thought someone else was preferred to me. It came up most frequently in relationship issues. Especially when another woman was involved. Even if in my imagination... but my husband also cheated on me.. Well, I went to a psychologist for EMDR therapy and it made an immediate difference! I was no longer jealous. No longer obsessed with what my ex-boyfriend was doing. No longer felt inadequate in my work. Really amazing difference. It may be something for you to check out. I could describe it in more detail if you are interested.

EMDR helped me process my trauma too :-) Like magic, for me. Today I just deal with residuals.
