I'm slipping into a terrible depressive phase. I feel like I've been stabbed in the stomach. Such despair and dread and pain...make it go away...help..

thanks for replying. I don't have anyone I can really talk to in my family. I do need a med review - but my insurance doesn't cover my psychiatrist (and he's the only psych. within 100miles).
I haven't had a hug in years.....

Hi Jerry,
I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so bad. Up until very recently, you've been doing well for quite some time. I had a thought about this. . . in another post you mentioned you're on Seroquel (I think). I know some people benefit from Seroquel for sleep; however, last year, my pdoc rx'd a small amount of Seroquel to me just for sleeping. I tried it a couple of times and, although I did sleep (sort of), I felt horrible the following day. Seroquel seemed to negate the benefits of the stimulants. I took it only a few times, but each time I took it, it seemed to make matters worse (I mean, each time it got progressively worse). The last time I took it, the following day, I was like a robot, physically, mentally and emotionally. I felt very stiff physically, and that scared me.Do you work out or do any other exercise (I'm sorry, I think we discussed this a few months ago, but my hippocampus can't retain all the information I read here). I vaguely remember you saying you walked your dog and that is your exercise. The reason I asked about exercise is that a regular, properly-timed exercise program can help with sleep. Perhaps you could increase the exercise and cut back a bit on the Seroquel. I'm willing to bet that Seroquel is exacerbating your depression and/or negating the benefits of some of the other meds in your regimen.

thanks so much for replying. Yes I do believe the Seroquel is negating much of the stimulant effects of Adderall - plus I really think it has a negative effect upon my mood - I get more depressed and my motivation goes out the window.
Exercise - YES - I really have been thinking about this - I don't get enough and I really want/need to start a program. I worry that the hydrodocone I take is going to make my brain produce LESS of its own endorphins - so exercise would really help in this case as well.
It's just easier said than done - you know? But I have to keep holding on....
Thanks
Jerry

Best I can do in the hug department from here. But you are worthy of hugs. You are loved.

Gee, Jerry -- sorry about all this. It never rains but it pours, huh?
Speaking of which, have you tried Bright Light Therapy? In MN, you probably see the outdoors twice between November and April, right? Makes sense that bright light might be helpful. As well as exercise, and yes that's easier said than done.
And physical contact makes a huge difference. I can say that, because I get damned little myownself. Two suggestions, neither perfect: massage. A good massage -- real one, not the "other kind" -- might help, just in having someone focus on touching you, petting you, and comforting you. I've only done it once or twice myself, and it's very hard for me (issues with being touched), but it did feel awfully good. Worst case scenario, your back will be nice and relaxed... The other is did you say you have a dog? A nice, cuddly dog? Some days, the only real contact I get is when I grab a cat and hold on. And it makes a difference. (Being a cat person, of course, I think cats are much better for this than dogs, because they PURR, but dogs are also great for just using as a body pillow, cuddling up on the floor.) Not perfect, by any manner of means, but either might help a bit.
And what does your insurance expect to have happen? A pdoc suddenly to go into practice next door to you? Surely there is some way to see your pdoc, even if you have to submit the claim manually. We have to do that for my T and my pdoc, neither of whom are preferred providers on our network. I can hardly imagine they expect you'll drive two and a half hours just to see the one pdoc they allow, though. How does it work for your insurance?
And Jerry? I really hope things get better for you, and soon. It's painful to see you hurting so much.
