Try seasonal work. It's very temporary

Try a major chain bookstore if you are willing to work late nights and weekends, they are always looking for people who are willing to work the crap shifts without benefits, and the work is more interesting than most. don't tell them it is temporary, no one wants to train someone who doesn't plan to stick around long.

hi Orchid,
are you back in the US for a while, or is this in India?

How about signing up with a temp agency? That might get you some work for a short time.

How about your old company where you used to work -- would they hire you part time? Maybe give you an "intern" designation, even though you're clearly NOT one (!) -- but just to get you in the door for a few months? Maybe they could hire you as a part-time consultant?

I think you said you do things with s/w. I don't know exactly what, but are there freelance jobs you could do or offer? If you're good at making web pages, for example, could you start a small site/business to do that for people?

Or if you don't want tech work, how about a bookstore or coffee shop or something people oriented for a while?

good luck!

Oooohhh man, I know this is tough. As both a former depressed "temp" and years ago, an employment counsellor, here are my few bits.

Start out looking for night shifts. All that hard work at night makes us exhausted in the morning, and you will feel tired, meds or no meds. This is where you can experiment with different meds because you won't have to worry about insomnia.

Try to get the fewest hours you can at first...it will help to 'gradually' expose you back to the 'world'. (From that isolation depression causes.)

Try to give yourself a good 6 months to a year at this, then maybe try to move a step 'up'...finding a better paying job...and maybe one that has a bit more contact with people. But don't do it until you feel you are "ready".

If you wish any further details or such...please feel free to babblemail me and remember many others on here have had the same experience.
Just hang around here and you will get great support.

Best,
Jay

Thanks everyone for your ideas. Actually I am not looking for a long term commitment. I am in the US for couple of months and instead of killing my time in the hotel room, I would like to do something productive and which will keep me occupied. That is why I am not applying for any company since they will be looking for a minimum commitment of atleast 3 months.

But a book store or web site sounds a good idea. Will try that.

Thanks for the suggestions

Hi Jen,
Nice to talk to you. I am in the US for couple of months, and after that I don't know for sure. So I am not applying to my old company as they take minimum 3 months and I don't want to spoil my reputation by taking it and breaking in between.

But the web site sounds like a good idea.
