What are your Christmas/Hanukah plans?

Posted by thuso on December 23, 2005, at 22:22:20

Just curious as to what other people are doing for Christmas/Hanukah.

Is anyone here going to be alone on Christmas/Hanukah (and celebrates either/both holidays)? I just found out I am going to be on my own for the whole day (just like my birthday a few days ago). :-( My parents are going to church all morning/afternoon and then spending the rest of the day at a friend's house. And then my brother will be with his girlfriend. That leaves me with nobody. My cousin is going to have a simple Hanukah gathering one day next week, but even that isn't going to be like it usually is. <I'm from a Christian and Jewish family>

I'm not sure what I'll do. Probably just go to a bunch of movies to make the day go by fast. It's not like I have many choices...everything is closed!

So what are you doing????

oh thuso, I'm sorry you'll be solo!
I just do Christmas. The 25th will be pretty uneventful for me, probably pairing up with some people also expecting an uneventful day. I won't see any of my actual family members until just before New Years. I'll spend Christmas eve with my fiance and his family.
I guess you're not interested in going to church with your parents?
You might want to get some good movies from the store tomorrow before everything's closed!! I know the movie theatres are usually open on Christmas, but I don't remember the first day of Hanukah and Christmas ever being on the same day.
Anyway, enjoy yourself anyway!
-all the best,

Actually, in the last 10 years or so the whole movie theater thing on Christmas has caught on. It's the same with going to a restaurant on Christmas. I remember all growing up we would always go to a movie on Christmas and the place would be empty. The only people you would see there were Jews. Not anymore!

This is actually going to be the first year we aren't going to a movie. I can remember one Christmas when I was around 6 we went to see "The Smurfs and the Magic Flute". It was a really stormy night and the theater was completely empty. It freaked me out! Through the whole movie my mind had convinced me that there was no one there because some kind of animal was under the seats eating people. hahaha! I was so scared about being eaten that I couldn't watch the movie. Good thing I've gotten over that! :-P

Thurso you're better off alone as I'm visiting and the stress is incredible. Lucky you. Fondly, Phillipa
