Burrrr Cold and Icey Outside!

Posted by Phillipa on December 15, 2005, at 22:57:07

Looking at the weather channel the weather is horrible and cold all over the US. I thought there would be a lot of activity on the boards. But even the meds board is totally empty. Now seriously where is everyone? They can't all be Christmas Shopping and school is over for most people isn't it? Fondly, Phillipa

Hi Phillipa,

A lazy Friday arvo in Sydney. Looking out the window watching the maxi yachts tuning up on the harbour in preparation for the Sydney to Hobart ocean race on Boxing day. Probably in the low 80s today and a little cloudy, but still nice. Hope you're staying cosy amd warm.

We just had a big snowstorm in Ottawa. Lots of snow shovelling! Couldn't sleep most of the night because the sound of the snow hitting the windows was so loud I could have sworn it was raining ice pellets!

I'm around. It is quiet here isn't it?

They just showed the forecast for Dallas / Fort Worth (further south, like Houston, its much warmer).

Low's/High's
Friday 49 / 72
Saturday 38 / 65
Sunday 38 / 60
Monday 42 / 68
Tuesday 40 / 69

Not too bad, but you never know when it will suddenly drop to 19 or something. That's Texas for you - 80 one day, 19 the next.

P.S.
If its going to be cold, I wish we could at least have some snow. Its been a long time.

Can't be worse than triple digits, stuck in traffic, and no air conditioner in your car. :-)

Come summertime, you can torture me with your t-shirt weather. I'll be running from my air conditioned apartment, to my air conditioned car, to my air conditioned work, and trying not to sweat like a pig in the process. Nevermind what it does to makeup and hair. You get to where you're like, why did I even bother to shower today? (But you do, you end up taking 2 or 3 a day).

I know! A big commute. Or equivalent. Live in Texas for six months. Live in Canada for six months. Oh, wait. Retired people already do that. Doh!

Wow! You lived in Texas and Canada??? That's two completely different extremes. I lived in New York (upstate) and Minnesota as a child. So I've at least experienced a northern winter. I remember not being able to open the front door for the snow in Minnesota. And going outside to play in the snow BEFORE leaving the house for school in New York. Snow angels anyone??? Here it would be dirt angels.

Don't get me wrong, I really do love Texas and can't imagine living anywhere else, but I feel a certain connection with the earth and nature and things like that. Different environments bring up completely different feelings for me. Anytime I see a picture of the woods or forest, I think of New York. Anytime I see really, really cold weather, I think of Minnesota. If I had my wish, I would travel around the world and experience all the environments the earth has to offer. Desert, jungle, forest, beach, mountains, its all amazing to me. I seem to be the only one I know who feels the awe that I do about nature. My friends think I'm strange when I'm marveling over the beauty of something like the canopy the of trees overhead, or the vastness of the ocean. I had someone recently tell me I was an earth mother. I don't really know what that means. All I know is I feel an almost high when I see nature in its finest.

P.S. If this is rambling, forgive me. I'm a tiny bit drunk.

No, I didn't mean to suggest I've done that. Lived in both places, at the most enjoyable times of year, I mean. When I win the lottery, and have my private jet, it stands as a possibility.
