Peanut Butter

Posted by ClearSkies on December 19, 2005, at 8:57:53

Random senseless thought for the day:

I like to open up a new jar of pb and be the first to dive in to the smooth surface of peanuttiness. I like to make a little swirl with a curliquew and keep it neat.

I really don't like scraping up the sides of the jar when it's almost empty, and getting pb all over the handle of my knife. Then I have to wash the knife AND my hands before I can enjoy the pb, or else get it all over everything I touch. Then you get the pb oil marks on the book you're reading and it is so messy.

I love to keep the peanut butter smooth all the way down. My husband jabs at it and leaves uneven peaks and valleys. Then when I open the jar, I just lose my appetite.

Yet, there's no reason behind my preference (not like his leaving the bread open for longer than it takes to yank the bread out), so I don't say anything.

But I sometimes think of getting my own jar of peanut butter that will always be smooth and never stomachturningly jagged.

I dont think either of you would like my peanut butter :)
I forget to put the lid on sometimes, and sometimes there are bread crumbs inside

Peanut butter has to be thrown away if it has crumbs, or worse yet, jam in it.

a few years back eta / kraft put out a jar of peanut butter with swirls of jam in it
but the verdict was
ew

i'm not sure about peanut butter
not sure whether i like it or not
but if i eat it i prefer smooth to crunchy
and ew i don't like crumbs in my spreads

there are benefits to living alone (or having your own food at any rate)
and one of them is i don't find crumbs in my spreads

and things get put back where they came from
with the lid on properly and everything

:-)

though my tea bags were disappearing...
it annoyed me.
i had two in a jar.
then one day there was one
then another day there was none
i don't even drink tea.
but some of the people who come to visit me do.
and it is more the principle of it.
you don't use other peoples stuff without asking and you MOST ESPECIALLY don't use something all up without asking.
i mean its not a big deal.
tea bags aren't terribly expensive
(and a pack last me a good year)
it is more the principle of the issue.
i put a note...
please ASK before TAKING
and no more have gone missing...
though i think i might need to put a note on my washing powder too
sigh.

Agreed. Definite advantages. :)

I'm one of the sloppiest people around, but I can be a very picky eater.

On the other hand, don't ever ask my husband about me and salad dressing. ;)

why? I mean the obvious reason is the crumbs will mold I guess, but by the time you get the crumbs up in the next use they are still ok, and then you add new, fresh crumbs, ya?
so Im not sure it is because of mold, but jam?
:)

I prefer crunchy to smooth and the bread crumbs as some extra texture in case its the smooth kind ;)

One of my most revolting childhood memories involves what I imagine was a piece of peanut butter in grape jelly. But it looked like a booger. I just couldn't eat that grape jelly. Ever. It sat in the refrigerator forever because I couldn't eat it, and I couldn't tell my mother why I couldn't eat it because she'd laugh and just scoop it out.

I don't think I've had grape jelly since.

Of course

I'm also one of those people with lots of little dishes on my plate, because I just can't abide having pea juice or carrot juice or gravy or *anything* touching any food it doesn't belong to.

This only happens to me if it's a food that no one else likes :-(
And the people here eat everything!

Never liked peanut butter and my kids were the only ones I knew who didn't eat it. But I used to get revence with it and my ex. He would get up at night and eat all the peanut butter in the house and swear he didn't know he did it and ask me never to buy it again. But I always bought some more that same day! Sweet revenge! Fondly, Phillipa

I think I sort of prefer it once it's all messed up and formed into an interesting surface shape. Then you can scoop out chunks more easily. And towards the end, I just scrape the jar clean with my finger. But I don't like crumbs or jam junk in there. I do have some standards.

Ya, I bet that finger goes back in the jar after it's been in your mouth. The liberties you can take when yer flyin' solo.
