Homesick

Posted by Gee on December 4, 2005, at 14:02:16

I'm just feeling lonely, and I want to be home. I hate doing familar things here because they remind of how much I miss home and everyone there.

Gee are you far from home? Will you be going home soon? If you are, try to keep looking forward to that. Keep in touch with those from home, maybe give someone a call.

I still suffer from homesickness, even though I have moved many times and to vastly different places.
It helps me to get items that are familiar:
candy or chocolate bars
local potato chips
a coffee mug from the TV station's website
a t-shirt from a venue I used to frequent
copies of local TV programmes that you miss (I have a cassette tape of some radio coverage that soothes me with its familiar expressions and voices)

I found a lot of resources on the internet.

i dont deal with it very well, that's for sure. i talk about home a lot. sometimes i inadvertently insult people for not being from my home :(

i could do a lot better. but talking helps. keeping things in my current house that remind me of home help, too.

Thanks for all the suggestions. My mom and gramma both phoned today and that helped some. I'm 10-14 hours away from home. I'm going home in a couple of weeks. I've been counting down forever now. It's not that I hate it here, it's just that it's not home, and leaving small town life is really hard to adjust to. We have a such a drug problem back home that I sound like I know what I'm talking about when I talk about it even tho I really have no idea. And the people are so normal here. It's just so strange. It also doesn't help that my roommate is horrible and doesn't talk to me anymore (it's a long story but basically I turned up the heat and live here which is enough for her to hate me), but only two more weeks of her then she's gone!! I think it's also just the stress of the end of the semester getting to me.

But, thanks... You have no idea how much it means that you guys responded

Yeah that sounds hard. Not getting along with a roommate can make your life miserable :-(
BUT YAY she willl be gone soon!!
hang in there its almost there. Maybe next term you could go home for an extra visit in between. It might help. I hope your exams go well!!
