I was in Trafalgar Square for this..
It was.. well.. unfortunately, my over riding feeling is one of anger at the press.. they were *so* intrusive.. My tears finally started to come, I was alone on a step, and was finally facing it all.. When all of a sudden, a close up of my crying face was being shown on the big screen and beamed around the world. It was no longer a private moment of grief.. I felt terrible..
The press were EVERYWHERE.. there must have been 200 or more of them.. Taking close ups of people in tears.. trying to interview people *during* the service. They completely ruined it for me, and I do feel anger over it.But hey, if you go to the "photos" report from your link, you can see me on the steps at Trafalgar Square (me and 500 others though! Bottom left, orange t-shirt and green zip up top)

Was it 60,000 killed in the blitz, 54 nights of consecutive bombing? Everyone went about their normal business (with a heavy heart). Churchill privately thought Britain was finished, but at least there would be no surrender.
Compare that with today, in London at the moment. What a difference good leadership makes.
Don't be too quick to take offense. Just wait for the (inflamed) terrorist attack here in Australia, and see the lockdown.
The Reichstag fire all over again.

Hey Declan..
Did you know that Churchill was reported to have had manic depression/bipolar..
He had depressive episodes which I think he used to refer to as his 'black dog' or something. But what its said that perhaps what gave him the energy to fight some aspects of the war was a form of hypo/mania apprently..
I guess it rings true that if it was the case, the illness can have its advantage of what falls down - goes back up to the other extream, and if used wisely, it can work out well...perhaps not for some German(s) at the time though....and depending how you view history etc. I need to learn more about history really.
Kind regards

Hi Declan..
I dont know, if you've heard about Mr Blunkett, well probably best viewed over on politics, but just wanted to say that personally I don't think Blair will be in power next election...or the Labour party for that matter on the next election. I didnt vote last time, just didn't get the chance to, but anyway my prediction lol the conservatives will be running this country next time round, god knows how things will be then, but at least it will be a change from the current 'party'.

Its wierd as well, I don't know too much about politics, but the Labour are meant to be left wing - where as ever since they've been in power they've been like conservatives. Be interesting to see how the right wing conservatives run things, many aspects, answering questions etc will probably be much the same to a certain extent lol
Watching the Blunkett resignation thing and Blair reacting before he resigned and then after....Now thats his resigned I dont know what his going to do, but I think if it was the other way round and Blair was resigning, then an Acting career could definitely be in the pipe line..seriously, all the smiling he does he would look great in a soap or something. I would just love to have seen what was going on behind the scenes with Blair and Blunkett when he resigned.
Kind regards

'Times are tough but they are tough because the government is doing the right thing'?.......yah yah, you still have elements of the Westminster System I see (resignations). Howard learned about that early on. I was thinking about my earlier post.....the difference back then was that (in such a stratified society) everyone felt that they were in it together. So they had the confidence to kick Churchill out in 45 and bring in those things, the remnants of which are still around you. The ALP here is truly clueless. Time for a cup of tea.

We had a memorial service.
We ARE all going about our every day business in London. We get on the tube, we go to work.
What *exactly* are you trying to say?

Theres a whole board for that, so please, take it there.
This thread was about tributes paid to the 52 people that died, because 4 men took rucksacks full of explosives onto packed rush hour tubes. They killed 52 people, and left hundreds with injuries, and hundreds and hundreds more with images they will probably never be able to forget.
*I* am one of those people.
Please, take the politics to the politics board, and let us that need to grieve, grieve.
