Babble Friends in that area, as I'm sure there are a few of you battling this fierce storm.Anyway, they are out of harms way.

I am about 130 miles Northwest of New Orleans. (Evangeline Parish) School was cancelled and surrounding businesses are closed. However, we missed the brunt of the hurricane. We just have a little wind. I do have family members from New Orleans who are not sure if their homes are destroyed.
My prayers have also go up for the people in the path of the hurricane.

to say nothing of my favorite people and their belongings...
The French Quarter is one of my favorite places because it is so entrenched with history; especially the history of music. If a venue for all kinds of music disappears, it will definitely be something to mourn.
I sure hope they are able to rebuild and remain the wonderful people that they are.

Thanks for asking.... like everyone else with friends and family from the "big easy" I have been a little stressed lately. I just got an email from a friend from NO that she and her kids are ok, but everything else is gone. My family is still waiting on response from thier neighborhood; but I'm sure the response will not be good.
I hadn't had time to check up on babble b/c I've been helping those in need.... so horrible this disaster that has taken place in the gulf area.Trying to smile

Sunny are you from the NO area, or do you go there just to visit??? I've gone there to visit just this past June and absolutely know what you mean about the music issue. I married a guy from NO who played in a jazz club on Bourbon Street for over 4 years.... and now, its ..... We loved to visit the area b/c of the music and history that the city encompassed. May the lost and depressed find happiness through this tragic disaster.

Dominique, it is so good to hear from you. Today I came across a couple with a new born baby. The baby was burning up with fever. I brought them some clothes. The man told me that some nice people are letting he and his wife live in a little room. He told me he needed gas.
I gave him $20 for gas and $20 for the baby. My husband thinks that I only gave 20 dollars.
My relatives in New Orleans are from the East bank. They lost everything.

I'm sure that the money you gave them will help out in many ways. Hopefully there is somewhere, such as a hospital (charity) or health center in your area (which there should be) which can see the baby.... I pray that there are more people who may open their doors [and wallets]to the survivors of this natural disaster.

The East Bank of Orleans Parish? Some of the East Bank is doing comparatively fine. Not that any of this if fine, except in comparison. Kenner has some power already according to the Kenner mayor as of last night. Harahan came out relatively unscathed. And Bonnabel to the 17th Street Canal sounds ok. The breach is on the other side. And Old Metairie sounds all right. If you can count all right containing no or contaminated water, no electricity, and lots and lots of wind damage. But not catastrophic.
Orleans and Plaquemines and St Bernard are devastated. My heart goes out so much to them. There are some from there here in the hotel, and they're trying so hard to find hope.
We were picking my inlaws up from a shelter not far from NO last night and got WWL 870. I wish they internet streamed.

I visit. And I have never felt a warmer welcome or sense of the history of a place and its people.
I am on tenterhooks to hear what has become of Lafitte's. I shall cry even more if I learn it has been washed away...
And to not have a venue for the music... words fail me... too sad to articulate...
