Just a social thread. What are people up to?

Posted by Ilene on July 11, 2005, at 17:28:36

I'll admit it--I just want to get e-mail.

I'm bored, but trying not to be. I'm looking for a new pdoc, not that I think s/he will help me, because I don't respond to antidepressants anymore. I didn't respond to ECT, which is usually a last resort treatment. All the ECT did was blitz my memory. Waiting for new stuff to come on the market, or maybe deep brain stimulation.

I'm going to volunteer at a health library after I go thru orientation, in about 10 days. (I have a master's degree in library and information science that I've never used.) I started an exercise class with an old friend. Sadly, that friend is moving away at the end of August.

I also started my old hobby of sewing. I have so much fabric it's overwhelming me. I made my 14-yr-old son a pair of boxers out of bright blue cloth sprinkled with pink roses. Very folkloric looking--I love it, but don't wear that color combination. I've had that fabric for at least 20 years! Does anyone else here sew? I'm nervous about my current project--I'm making something for my friend who's moving away. She wants a salwar kamiz (I'm not sure how to spell it--it's that tunic and pants combo that Indian women sometimes wear). Anyway, I have a pattern for one of those, so I said I'd make her one. What did I get myself into?

My kids are home for the summer, and I worry about them. They have no friends. They both went to summer school, but it's over for my son and almost over for my daughter. My daughter and I don't communicate very well, even though we love each other. She inherited my depression and is miserable. No self esteem. She's been out of high school for a year and is just floundering. My son has been diagnosed with ADHD.

Okay, now it's your turn. What are you doing?

Let's see, in the short term, I'm doing the AvoiDance.

Today, I'm AvoiDancing putting my food journal into the database for my nutritionist. That's why I'm here, actually -- PB is a pretty good way to fill in AvoiDance time, you know? :^(

In general, though, I'm in a kind of holding pattern that is just driving me batty! We're a little closer to getting my husband's car running again, so that I will have the option of getting out and about again. That should help, I hope. I'm also still waiting to see what's going to be done about a pain near my stomach that seems to be caused by a large, benign tumor in my liver. Might be surgery, which I'm not entirely thrilled by. Still, it would be very nice to get rid of the pain.

I'm thinking about going back to school, but can't think what I'd study. And my husband and I are talking about doing some remodeling. And then selling this place and moving elsewhere. The "where" part is what we haven't quite agreed upon so far.

And my feet are getting worn out from all this AvoiDancing...

Yes, I know about AvoiDance. I've been doing that about a form that needs a notary public. I don't know where to find one. Even though I would get a large check once I did the paperwork.

Getting out and about is good. My problem is that there's very little I want to do these days. That's one of the reasons I'm going to be doing more volunteering, etc. I have very little social life, and I'm not working.

Being out of pain is good too. Surgery isn't too much fun, but they give you lots of stuff for the pain, and the nurses are usually nice.

When I went back to school I got a degree in Library/Information Science. I liked it alot, but I never got a job in the field. Too much other crap (depression, other health issues) got in the way.

My friends who are moving because the San Francisco area is too expensive are going to Portland, Oregon.

Just go and put your food into the DB already!

Later,

I.

well i am getting ready to go to bed right now. i have to write three news stories tomorrow b/c tomorrow is my deadline and i have procrastinated a bit (but not too bad). i feel like tomorrow is Friday (OK i wish tomorrow was Friday)

i am dreading Wed and Thurs b/c i have to go to the main office to do graphic design (make the newspaper ads) and i have no experience doing so. i know that i can figure it out, but it is going to take time and they are going to be wanting me to be spitting them out every 15 minutes or so.

i really do like this new job and i can't wait until the end of Aug b/c my boyfriend will be moving here from a state away and i haven't seen him since March.

i have been trying to write a novel but the beginning sounds like a trashy romance novel (not that those are bad or anything) and the rest is depressing. i just got some new ideas tonight that i might work on this weekend. i think that i should start w/ a short story and do that by reading some classics first.

i ahve been trying to get myself to do this pilates DVD i bought everyday but so far i have only done it twice. need to work on that one.

good night, all

SM

Let's see, I'm pretty sure that Lauretta's on Irving at 17th has a notary. Otherwise, BofA at 21st and Irving had one for years, I predict they still do. Those are both walking distance...

Otherwise, the Kinko's at Stonestown certainly has one, although I think they don't have one for every shift. It's worth calling first. And, if you do go to Stonestown, you can stop in to Williams-Sonoma, or to Pottery Barn, or even go to the Joyous NORDSTROM! Just think of all the windows you can shop for!

I took your advice and went to the BofA, but they said the notary was available for bank business only :-(

I think I'll go to my husband's office in the Financial District. There's one there.

Shopping doesn't do it for me too much anymore, although I'm starting to buy sewing patterns again. I just got one for 5-panel boxers (for men). A good way to clear out the fabric stash. I want to make them right away, but I'm going to be disciplined and make myself a pair of pants, if possible, first. I need pants. Fitting is the hard part. And I'm still working on the salwar kameez for my friend. Folkwear patterns are little flaky, I think. I'm glad I'm making one up in muslin.

Here's a picture of what I'm making:

I'm making the tunic, and I'll be fiddling with the pants so they are not so wide but still have the drape around the ankle.
