confused about where to post stuff--starting here

I'd like some suggestions about how to change pdocs (I have referrals). Is this the board for that discussion?

Close enough.

I just saw my pdoc of 4 years for the last time Thursday and will be starting with a new doc 12/27.
I've had some good references on him but who the heck knows what to expect?
Try to get more than one person's view if possible.
I think change is good. My DX changed from depression to Bipolar II so it would be nice to hear that DX confirmed by a second party.
Good luck with your quest. It's not easy.

Good, and thanks. My old one thinks I'm coming back, though. What do you say? And do you ask for another script to tide you through until you get in to another physician? I was with my first pdoc with a dx of major depression for 10 years (I mean I had it, I don't know what his was). Then we moved for a year, before moving again to where we are now. We have been here for 18 months and plan to stay until retirement in about four years. I've never wanted to leave my prior pdocs--all two of them. I feel sort of embarrassed about saying, "listen, I'm not comfortable with you anymore, and I'm trying to find a new doctor. Will you please give me enough medicine to last me until I do? Thanks for all your help--I really appreciate the time and effort you've put into working with me--I know it hasn't been easy."

Did you interview your pdocs before you connecected with one? I didn't have a chance to do that when we moved. I hope it doesn't turn into a search. Just whose feelings am I not wanting to hurt here? Jeeze. We do employ our doctors, do we not?

I didn't interview anyone.

Your doc should still be sure you have scripts-you're still technically under his care.
Tell your doc you have interviewed w/ another pdoc on the recommendation of a friend. You find that you need a change. Just like breaking up with a boyfriend or girlfriend..you know, lie.
He should graciously thank you for ten years worth of pay checks and forward your records to the new doctor for continuation of treatment.

Probably. It is beginning to feel as if I'm making a mountain out of a haystack. I want to change pdocs because of a number of seemingly small concerns that all add up to a BIG discomfort. I've known her for 18 months, not 10 years--she told me at last visit she feels like I'm in control of my treatment, not her (and this makes her uncomfortable or so I surmise) so she'll probably be relieved when I bail. As will I.

I'm gonna stop analyzing and whining about the damn situation and just act on it--thanks for your challange, Phil.

Ha! I dunno about threads--it's just a way of life for me. Talking too much, that is. Especially on these boards.

At the risk of being sexist, I was going to comment that your approach to my situation is both practical and foreign. (I'm a mellowing old school feminist, too, so for me to say this indicates more than mellowing.) It matches my husband's take almost exactly. Brings up all sorts of questiions--gender vs personality and lots of room for talk.

I do appreciate your input and while still stymied realize that it's up to me and that nothing awful's going to happen unless I get somebody worse.

Thanks, Phil. I especially like it that you called my bluff. (Is *s--t* considered an "offensive" word on Babble? It would be useful if it isn't.)
