of calling and talking to the area manager for the Head Start Program about the job I'd applied for and got no interview. I guess I caught the head teacher off-guard when I asked her if I was going to get an interview for the asst. teaching position. I called the Area Manager today and found our there IS NOT a policy within the org. organization that disallows a parent to take a teaching position in the same classroom as their child. The Area Manager was so kind and understanding and complimentary of me I almost felt guilty about feeling so angry yesterday. She told the that the head teacher had such a bad experience with her first experience with an assistant, that she decided she wanted someone this time with documented experience in a Head Start classroom, which I do not have. Anyway, I feel much better about this "rejection" now that I have more information, but I still feel I am an excellent candidate for the job. The Area Manager told me she would keep me personally posted on anything else that came up for which I am qualified. Whew!
Thanks so much Lou and Fi for listening to me yesterday and your suggestions - I thought I was on the verge of having a stroke when I posted that message!

Sorry- I should have checked further down before replying to the other message!
Wonderful- at least someone who treated you respectfully and gave you the reasoning (however daft!) Well deserved.
I'm so glad that you only *almost* felt guilty- to feel guilty would have been so unneeded.:-)

Colleen,
I am assuming that in your conversation on the phone that you are now going to have an interview for the original position?

The final decision is up to the head teacher and she wants someone who has taught in a Head Start classroom. I haven't. I will speak with her again and tell her I hope she finds someone who works out well (sincerely), AND that it could have very well been me had I been given an interview, even though I hadn't met that one specific qualification.
