Anyone used prozac?

Hey Ya'll
I went to the Dr. today and he said that instead of lexapro for hormones, I should be taking prozac. I am going to start on 20mg tomorrow and get off the lexapro totally ( I am taking 5mg every other day). I called my p-doc to see what she thought and she said to give it a shot. She also said that it would be better on the weight gain and would actually help me lose weight... I need some help and support, anyone been on it I would love to hear. Thanks!!!

I use prozac but I'm not sure what your issues are; I don't have a weight problem (yet), I'm supposed to be on 60 mg but I'm trying to get down to 20. I've been losing a lot of hair (unfortunately not the kind that grow on the chin). I just can't stand the disturbing dreams anymore. I think if I can get down to 20 I'll be okay. 'zac has helped me have some kind of a life though. An imitation of one anyway.

What does 'zac have to do with hormones do tell

Susan!
Hi to tell you the truth, I am really not sure at all what prozac has to do with hormones. My endocrinologist/Obgyn said that it would be better than lexapro for my PMS problems. So I am going to give it a try. We shall see...

Hey again Susan,
My problems are depression mostly around my period and anxiety. I have never had a weight problem but am gaining weight like crazy on lexapro...I think I up to like 7 or 8 lbs, I feel gross I cannot fit into my size 2 and 4s anymore, it sucks. So prozac has helped you some??

Mm, I used to feel like I wanted to commit criminal acts around the time of my periods; now I just feel extremely discouraged. I suppose that's progress of a sort. Personally I think prozac has had a big hand in helping me cope with life in general, but the particulars suck sometimes. For instance, I get anxiety attacks now, which I never used to have. Honestly though I don't know whether that's a byproduct of 'zac, therapy, or splitting from my parents (emotionally) and husband (physically). It's a toss-up I guess. Medications like Prozac I think are probably okay in smaller doses, like 20 mg, but at 60 I know it was too much for my body. I have been eating a lot more lately and gaining weight, but I can definitely say that it's not because of the prozac. If anything, 'zac keeps my appetite and my weight low.

Susan,
What dosage did u start on? I am going to start on 20 and stay at 20, is that too much to start, do you think I should try to cut my pills and start out at 10mg?
Thanks, lexy

I wouldn't have a clue I started at twenty

I was at twenty for a few months, then forty, then sixty. Now I play around with the amount, trying to get it at the right living level. Don't recommend doing that by the way, the only reason I do is my psych told me it was okay to try that.

Hi everyone,
I have been out of touch for a while but I am back to normal (hopefully). We went on vacation for labor day weekend and that put me way behind on things. Work started for me on Tues and the girls went back to school on Wed. I have been busy catching up on laundry, shopping, cleaning, plus homework, paying bills and balancing my checkbook (which is completely screwed up!). I also have homework that I have been doing. So obviously I am very busy but not feeling overwhelmed yet! Lex has helped me so much with that feeling. I don't get things done like I used to but I dont really care either. Not sure if that is good or bad. I have messed up my check book, forget to pay bills and many other things. But it's not bothering me. Is that okay? Not sure. I feel so irresponsible! Ha Ha. Hey Mrs. C
Glad to have you back. About all that stuff, not balancing your check book ect... I think that is what normal life is life when you live without anxiety...I can't be for sure because its been a while since I have not had anxiety...Anyway, if so congrats on your new achievement...let me know if you need help on your homework!!

Hey lexy ..thank you very much that is what I tried to tell Mrs C... that it is a sign that we are feeling better and that we dont have enough anxiety to worry about the little things like balancing our checkbooks right away right then and there..but we will get to it...hopefully before we bounce anything..hahaha...I'm right there with her though I used to be terrible about it every check had to go out at a certain time and every time the bank statement came in the checkbook would have to balanced that friggin day but now it will get done...Although when i mentioned that to the dr she seemed a little concerned i said no worries hahahaha..well everyone have a great weekend I know ahead of time that it gets pretty quiet in here on the weekends..luvya all and pray for everyone every day take care of yourselves...Your friend Mystic

Did I ever mention my whole issue is dreaming of the day I can go back to all irresponsibility...where someone else will cover my tofu at all costs??? I miss that... My dream job is being the woman in glamour magazine that goes and does stupid things, JUST BECAUSE.... I would thrive, be happy, benefit from, and do good at that, she does dumb#$@ things like wears cheesy bridesmaid dresses in the middle of the afernoon, to see how people responds, or wears, like maxipad on her forehead, or asks someone to carry her because her feet hurt, just BECAUSE. I COULD DO THIS...and be good at it... and take names:)

AND I just had an ugly thought, tomorrow is September 11th...It is one of those unofficial ugly holidays, like the Pearl Habor invasion business, that isn't officially on a calendar, but makes us all cringe. I am sad, but honored to be a part of history. I mean this in a totally positive way, grandkids, I remember what I was doing. I was giving a quiz in my sixth grade math class in Florence, SC..And at first remembering thinking it wasn't a big deal. It was an accident. Then remember after hearing the facts, wanting to herd all of my sixth graders inside after seeing an innocent airplane go by. My how times have, and will change. What an incredible part of history to be alive for, it was totally horrendous, but we all somehow, managed to get ourselves through it. I still have thoughts, though.

I love you all. Every day. Remember how important people are everyday.
