Hi Larry. My cats love to drink water, and one of them likes the water very cold, with ice cubes if possible. She likes to play with the ice cubes. Sometimes the cats put their toys in the water dish and they use their paws to bop the toys around in the water.

I live in Texas. About 45 miles inland from the gulf.

My hubby has a three cat limit. We've got four. One of them was a rescued kitten I bottle fed. I like raising the abandoned newbies, and wish I could do more, but the chance doesn't come around often. Last litter I took care of was almost a year ago.

I've never heard of a cat getting mad cow. I'll check it out.

My cats won't touch IAMS. Some one gave me some once and they walked off in a huff. I get the science diet at PetSmart. Petco has it, too. If you have a pet store near you they might have it, too.

Mel,
4 cats is quite a crew! Wish I could get more of them. There are so many who need homes. I just don't have the room or the money for them right now. Besides, one of mine is very jealous so it wouldn't work anyway.

I read that cats can theoretically get mad cow disease (as opposed to dogs, who at this time can not). I've never actually heard of a single case. I just worry a lot. Don't mind me.

Hi

She was from a house cat I think?
She will gobble prawns and thank me for them but I rarely give her them.
She has some dry food sometimes.
Oh and can eat cod..but only cooked.
She has expensive taste.
When desperate she eats canned but only licks off the jelly..I've tried non soya canned and she still looks at me in disgust.
Maybe I'll try stuff that the vets use online..wonder if they do samples:)

> Hello Catgirl,
> Now there's a good screen name! Thanks for your reply. I wonder why your cat doesn't like the canned food. The cat that's turning her nose up at the food she used to eat is eating, but she won't eat the dry food that she's liked for several years (IAMS). I opened a can of food the other day, and she ate it, but she won't touch the IAMS dry weight control food now. It just occurred to me that they might have changed the formula. Maybe I should contact the company and ask.

The name definitely fits this particular thread! :)
Maybe you should contact the company. Cats can be so finicky sometimes, maybe she just wants something new.

My cat loves cold water too. He prefers to drink it out of the tap. He won't drink out of a bowl at all, so I leave a glass of water next to his food bowl in case I forget to leave the faucet running.
I used to have a cat that would paw at his water bowl so that he could watch the water move. Cute, except for all the puddles!

My cat loves toothpaste too!

My cat loves the taste of mint. If I have minty breath, just after I brush my teeth or eaten a mint, she really wants to smell it. She comes right up to my mouth and practically sticks her face in it. If I have traces of toothpaste or peppermint oil on my hands, she licks it like crazy. I've figured it out: if you smell fresh catnip, it smells just like mint leaves. She also likes the smell and taste of fresh basil and oregeno. I always have it on my fingers after I make a salad, and she licks them like crazy too! I love cats-they're so wierd!

My cat likes mint-flavored dental floss! When he hears me taking some off the roll, he comes running. I let him chew the end of it while I hold it so that he can't eat it.
I think that catnip is part of the mint family of plants.

Glad to know mine isn't the only loony toon out there! She'll try to lick my lips if I've just eaten something minty or just brushed my teeth. She's a riot. I never used to be a cat person. I got my two because I couldn't get a dog and I sort of grudgingly accepted that it was this or nothing. I never expected to love these little creatures so much. I wouldn't trade them for any dog.

I don't see the connection with catnip and toothpaste though. Catnip doesn't smell like mint to me but my sense of smell isn't the greatest. It does smell like oregano to me though and both of my cats love that as well.

What a riot - making tea for your cat! I guess your nose was right about the similarity to mint.

I had read that Valerian was in the same family as catnip so I tried giving them a sniff. They did go crazy. (I go crazy over the smell as well but for totally different reasons!)

Thanks for the link.

She loves to lick my feet and rub her cheeks (with scent glands) all over them. She has even woken me up by doing this. How strange is this cat?

That is strange, and I bet it tickles!
Mine likes to groom me by licking my hair. Yuck!

Yes, it does tickle. Mine like to try to chew on my hair but they don't try to groom me like that. They're endlessly amusing, aren't they?
(or maybe you just have to like cats to see it that way?)

That is a cool link. I'll try that cat nip tea, as well as that other stuff, Kara! Make our cats go wild. Who needs TV? They're also great for entertaining guests! I figure we as humanshave so many pleasures (chocolate, booze, drugs ) and give ourselves treats, why not let the cat have fun!

As soon as I come home, I take off my shoes, and my cat plunges her face in them. So gross! Plus she too rubs her face all over my feet, especially when they are smelly.

My brother's cat does the same thing with shoes and feet, and it's especially funny when he has guests over. She loves the new feet smells, and is all over their shoes. I just tell them that cats love stinky feet, and they don't know whether to laugh or be offended.

Also, my brother's cat would lick his armpits and hair.

They are endlessly entertaining, aren't they? I'm always pleasantly suprised at dog lovers and cat haters who get cats and end up loving them. Proof that cats are the best pet!

Hi All,
My cat was sitting in my lap the other day, I was chewing very strong gum. I was talking to someone and the cat went nutts. She is obsessed with the smell of the gum. Finally I took it out of my mouth and let her smell it, she kept licking it and had I not pulled it away from her to throw out, she would have probably been after it for hours...weird kitties...

Your stories are too funny (and too gross)! They are definitely endlessly entertaining creatures.

I think the reason many people don't like cats is because they don't know them at all. Cats, in general, are so shy around people they don't know and so as a stranger, you don't get to see their real personalities. I was amazed when I got mine at how sweet, affectionate and charming they can be.
