Thoughts on *Average Joe*

Posted by Wildflower on December 2, 2003, at 8:18:39

OK, so the show was pretty much what I expected but I still found myself glued to the TV...

Wouldn't it be awesome if we all had the power to see what the opposite sex was talking about when we weren't around?

Depends on which members of the opposite sex, I imagine. I don't suppose they're all alike any more than we are. I don't behave any differently around men than I do around women or discuss things differently, and I doubt my husband or father do.

(I know I hope that people on "reality TV" aren't representative members of either sex.)

I pity her for her final choices. Adam is nice, decent, funny, etc, but clearly there's no romantic chemistry between them. Jason is pretty and a good kisser but their conversation is terrible and he seems devoid of even the most rudimentary personality. If only she could morph the two of them together, she might end up with one decent mate. That doesn't solve the other problem-- neither of the guys seems to be really falling for her.

Who do you think will 'win' next week? I pick Adam. And I give them a month.

Would someone fill me in--I missed it. I know Maleana dressed in a fat suit and pretended to be her cousin, and that she overheard the guys dissing her. But I need details! Who said what and what happened? I need to know! Thanks.

Here's a pretty good recap...

That recap left out a couple of good parts..

In the poolhouse, when the guys were dissing 'Danielle', someone asked if anyone would give Danielle a lapdance, and Mike (curly haired hunk) said sure, he would, no problem.

The other good part came after Zach got kicked to the curb. On his way out, he let out a stream of complaints that was bleeped about every other word, to the effect of how unfair it was that Melana got to see the tape of them dissing 'Danielle'. He said something like 'That's not reality, that's bull****', which is funny, since obviously that WAS the reality of him when he thought the cameras were off. That was also the part where he said that men talk differently with no women around and it's not fair to hold that against him. It was a primo rejected contestant hissy fit.

thanks tab! (nm)

I think once she finds out Adam is a millionnaire she may start developing romantic feelings for him. My thought is though, if he is so wealthy, can't he get his teeth fixed???

Jason is vapid and it's pathetic watching Melena throw herself at him. In fact, I would love it if in the end she does pick Adam and he says thanks but no thanks.

But *what* about Ryan's bachelor party?!

Where some of the guys refused to come watch the strippers because of vows to their wives and their faith? I thought I was on the wrong planet...

Wasn't that COOL? Those guys were really uncomfortable with the strippers. And Ryan cried tears of sensitivity! And the final tender embrace with Trista-- man! I got all choked up. ABC got me again. I said to myself, gee, if a woman as annoying as Trista can find love-- maybe I can, too.

But I thought it was mighty cruel of ABC to set up the party with the strippers coming on so hard to Ryan, just to create more drama for the show. What if they really had successfully created a rift between Ryan and Trista?

And how about Trista's unattractive, miserable-looking sister? I felt so sorry for her.

I think it's her stepsister--even more reason to feel sorry for her. Yeah, she was like a for real Malena's cousin, or something.

Well I was telling my friend about it tonight and she said the guys were just doing that (resisting stripper-dom) because they were on camera and they didn't want their wives to see it and get in trouble. She's even more cynical than I am, but now I think she's right.

I have to admit I had that thought a couple hours after the show. But still.. bachelor parties are stupid and sleazy and there must be plenty of men who don't enjoy them.

And those strippers made Ryan cry! They did! I saw it! And he's a big studly fire-fighter, and didn't even seem embarassed when talking later about how he broke down and shed tears. It was a great TV moment.

Ryan was PLASTERED though, keep that in mind! Whenever I have a little too much to drink, I love everyone and also become very emotional.

And those guys totally sat out the strippers because they were afraid of their wives! My husband and I were howling when we were watching this because of how totally unrealistic it was!

You notice none of the women had a problem with their strippers. In a party situation like that, strippers are so hilarious. I would be disappointed in my husband if he didn't join the revelry. I know I certainly would be laughing my head off and having a good time.

And I did feel sorry for Trista's sister. Poor girl..

thanks for the reality check, Miss H. But I may hang onto my interpretation of poor, sensitive Ryan traumatized and brought to tears by the mean strippers, surrounded by the group of tough firefighters too loyal to their wives to partake. It's so much prettier that way.

Yes, I like that interpretation too. Strippers can be so mean!
