Back to work?

Posted by tabitha on November 19, 2003, at 16:31:48

I'm talking with my former company about doing consulting for them. It's work that I would have considered a little beneath me when I was there, yet after 3 months of puttering around the house, the idea of getting huge hourly pay for relatively simple work seems good.

My therapist wants me to keep looking for Job Charming but I don't believe in it anymore. I think she's being pollyanna-ish about the possibilities. I just want a paycheck. Preferably by-the-hour, since the expectation of free overtime is rampant in my field.

Nothing definite yet but I think it will come through in the next few weeks. I am going to try to interview at one particular company in the meantime.

Sounds like a good plan. :) And you aren't signing your life away. There's nothing wrong with getting paid while keeping the search on for that perfect job.

Or as my momma used to say. You don't have to marry every guy you date (although as it happens, I pretty much did).

>Sounds like a great idea. Since you have worked with the company in the past, you know their expectations. Also, if it is hourly that should free up some time to continue the Prince Charming job search. It sounds like you are ready to get back to work, good for you! Don't give up on the perfect job just yet though, HE is out there ( I only use he because you refered to him as Job Charming :)

That sounds like a good transition back to work. Company you know. Time limited position. "Easier" work. Sounds like a winner to me. Good luck

Consulting does sound like a very good step back to work. I have considered calling people who I have worked for in the past, and doing something similar. I have to keep reminding myself that no-one has implied that I am ready for work yet. I would say that if your therapist believes it is a good idea, then go for it. You will have the benefit not only of a job, but you will be working for yourself, and that has certain tax advantages, as well as the boost to your self esteem.
Good luck,
Dee.
