Electroconvulsive therapy

Has anyone undergone ECT? What was it like? Symptoms? Side effects? My p-doc wants me to try it and I have mixed feelings about it. Any similar experiences?

Sorry if it's confusing, but there are a number of boards here, and (just plain) Psycho-Babble is the one for questions like these. Here's a link:

I underwent ECT two years ago and it really brought me back my life I had gotten to the point that I was so depressed that I would not respond to anyone I could not find the energy to even bathe not to mention not eating or drinking anything. I had seven treatments and the worst side effect I had was a temporary problem with my short term memory. The proceedure was painless and over with so fast that I was not aware I had had anything done. I did not experience any of the nausea or confusion or headache that some people report having immediately after the proceedure. It took about a month to begin to get some relief from the depression but since then I haven't had the chronic depressive symptoms that I did before the treatments. I am now able to take the medication which helps me stay stable whereas before none of the meds were working. If it came down to it I would have it done again.
