Wellbutrin SR and 2 Year olds don't Mix

Posted by NOTINSANEJUSTPPMD on February 25, 2003, at 15:52:19

Hi Everyone, I just thought I would ask for some prayers and support. My 2 year old son climbed up on to the kitchen cabinet last night and got into my Med. Cabinet. I thought being that it was up high that they were safe. Well I guessed wrong. I was missing about 10 Wellbutrin SR 150 MG Not sure if he actually took it or not but posion control ( I cant spell) told me that I must take him to local ER ASAP. We did he had to drink 13 grams of Charcol mixed with Chocolate pudding. Lucky he ate it all so we did not have to put a tube down his throat. When then after spending four hours in ER we were told he had to stay over night just in case he had seizure. Thank God it was a pretty eventless night. He got a little squirly until about 2:00 AM then finally passed out. HE was released at 11:30 Am today and seems to be going good but we still have to monitor him. So please everyone make sure you meds are in a tight secure space that nobody especially young ones can't get to them. We are very lucky but I would hate to have any of you go through the termoil I went through last night. They are my meds and I am still sick to my stomache that I could have killed my son or ruined him for life. I seen my Therpist today so she is helping me cope better. But if you could just remember Ike and me in your prayers. God bless and Thanks for letting me tell my stor here. NOTINSANEJUSTPPMD

For the longest time I was used to getting my meds in any bottle the pharmacy gave me. Than later I thought it better to make sure I had child resistant caps on the bottles One day I was at friends house and left my coat with a bottle of xanax in it guess her brother went though my pockets though downstairs with their son and older daughter. I and could not open the bottle. Luckily she took them and brought them upstairs. So simple and honest an error but the consequences could have been catastrophic.

We need to be careful not only in where we store them but all in the vessel. NOTINSANEJUSTPPMD, my prayers are with your child right now. Bless you for sharing this.

Hi Tony I really appreciate it, I have really been beating my self up the past few days. I know deep down I did not do this on purpose but I still feel like crap. Ike is doing great, the doctors were glad that we acted on it so fast so he took the charcol with 45 minutes of taking them. WHEWW!!Thanks again for your kind words and your prayers! It really helps ! God Bless, Kerry

I just got around to reading this thread--what a scare for you. I am so glad he is fine. Please don't beat yourself up for this (although I know it is a natural reaction for a mom). It was an accident, and it is behind you now.

Thank you very much for all the kind responses. I am doing much better now, I actually went away for the weekend to be by myself and think about it. I know it wasn't my fault. My husband has finally come around and said it wasn't my fault. (After my father-in-law chewed his butt) My son is doing fine. Trying to still get into things but New child proofing everywhere seems to be working. Thanks again all and God Bless you and this site for all the wonderful support it offers. Kerry

I'm glad you are feeling better about it.

My youngest brother was a "climber" and I remember that he would always get into stuff that everyone thought was way out of reach! I'm sure my parents had some real scares with him, too. At two he could climb and reach the highest cabinets, even the ones above the fridge. You know, I think those early quest of my brother were early signs of his strengths--smart, curious, brave, not stymied by barriers, a get-things-done kinda guy. Gotta watch out for those smart ones! Take care.
