get-together in philadelphia?

Posted by Dr. Bob on April 25, 2002, at 13:05:46

Hi, everyone,

I'm going to be in Philadelphia May 18-23 for the big psychiatry meeting:

http://www.psych.org/sched_events/ann_mtg_02

Would anyone local be interested in coordinating an informal get-together? Maybe lunch or coffee or something Sunday May 19?

I don't know if anyone else will be going to the meeting. Would people be more likely to travel to a "consumer" meeting? NAMI, for example, is meeting in Cincinnati this year:

I will meet you in the convention centre where myself - Dr.Eamer - will be inducted and awarded for her ongoing radical research.

Skip the lunch...

Yessir, Phil.

I believe it's held in SOUTH Austin.

As a matter of fact, I was watching the SPAM-off (eating contest) on cable the other day. About 6 guys. Each had one can to eat as fast as they could.

So, they'd slide that chunk of SPAM out of the can, with those globs of clear, semi-solid matter hanging from it, and start chomping.

A couple barfed after just the first hunk or so. Some held on a little longer. They were chewing it...I think my strategy would have been "squish and swallow."

So, I think last year's winner was defeated. The contest was part of the festival, and had an announcer and official timekeeper.

It was pretty hard to watch, really.....blehhh.

I would have a lot more flexibility there, of course. :-) Would anyone be interested?

Hi Dr. Bob,
I am moving to Harrisburg in the next month or so, although I'm not sure we'll be there by the 19th. If so, I would love to get together with you and other "babblers" -- I think it's a great idea.

I'll just have to keep you posted on if/when we're moving ...

I don't mean to get off subject too much. But we are talking about place. I have put in an intracorporate transfer request to New Orleans and I was curious what other babblers (or Dr. Bob!) think about the New Orleans area-climate-people-economics-culture, etc. Hurricanes and floods are probably a negative, but the people/culture sound pretty cool.

Thanks, I don't know about Charlotte, but it's only a matter of time before there's a meeting in Atlanta...

I'd love to visit Montreal, too! The catch is needing to have a meeting there -- or wherever -- to go to. So if you hear about something, let me know! :-)

I know all the meetings for that...

But the likelihood of my hearing anything happening in psychiatry before you do is, to say the least, slim!

Dear Mitch,

My father has lived in New Orleans for about 8 years. He LOVES it. He is kinda wacky, owns a "flop-house" on Canal Street, and fits right in. NOLA is not for everyone. It doesn't seem like a very clean city, and it gets VERY wild and crazy.

Love and luck,
Carly
