WHY??????

Posted by LiLi80 on April 4, 2002, at 0:53:25

why do people keep telling me to go to the hospital? News flash...I have attemped suicide a bunch of times and the ER never keeps me. Oh and my insurance wont cover hospitals stays at psych hospitals. Plus a hospital wont fix me. They just house me. My meds wont change if i go. Treatment wont change. I will just get to sit around and sleep all day. I can do that at home. Plus with all the bad hospitals out there, I dont want to go. There is a huge controversy about all the women getteing raped in my area at these hospitals that are "helping" people. Hospitals are out of the question. Hospitals will only keep me from killing myself for a little while, then when I am seen as functionable, I get sent home. WHy cant anyone see that hospitals isnt the god damn cureall! I think people are stupid and they just just dont want to find a way to help me so they just want to send me away. Maybe other people get cured at other plaes, but my insurance doesnt cover getting cured. nobodys does.
pissed at people who dont understand that a hospital cant fix everything including me.

A friend of yours who knows I stay up til 3 a.m.. .. you know, that girl who's always in trouble, asked me to check up on you--and sure enough, here you are, girl!

What's shakin'? Still feeling rotten? There's nobody here at night, but I'd check in if you're here, or we could IM, or you can email me. Hell, sometimes I'm up til 4!

I really admire the way you're working with this, love seeing your name all over the board! Did you read my post to you on Babble yesterday? Boy, poor Kramer got a work out, and I guess we know one guy who was giving him a hard time.

Why don't you write down my email & get in touch!

She wants you to know she's blocked for a few more days, that's why she hasn't been able to answer--but she is reading you and watching over you.

Wanna do a chat with her? Do you have her email?
Email me and I'll send it to you!
Love again,

Go to Ellavon, an online zine, and read "Suicide Notes" written by trouble. It's so helpful, psychologists order it in bulk for people who feel on the edge.

Lili, trouble got blocked for a week for using F***. She's still reading the forums though & is very concerned for you. Like Zo, I'd like you to read something PLEASE, before you do anything else. I won't tell you what to do after you read this but PLEASE Lili, read these first & then decide:
http://www.ellavon.com/evn_sn.html (Robin is AKA trouble)

......Dr. Bob, this really is me, IsoM (Judy), not someone posting under my name......

Sorry, should be *trouble and writing* in above (nm) » IsoM

You are clearly in touch with trouble, so know her better than me. I'm just concerned about someone's 'real' name being posted to the list by another person?

I understand your concern, Fi. She's used her name before & says she doesn't mind. She e-mailed me in concern about Lili. Her writings can't be found under her forum name used here. It's very important to her that Lili reads the notes. I would never do anything like that without explicit permission from that specific person.

It was actually the M*****F****R word.

Which she used to get YOUR attention!

I know it got mine!

But this site has rules, and Dr. Bob applies them. There's no judgement intended; he just keeps things in line.

Sometimes he has to clarify new rules, as situations arise, (like using the M word) but it doesn't mean anything about the person who is blocked; he's just keeping the board working--and I think it works pretty well!

Love, Zo

Lili,

Basically, people are telling you to go into a hospital because they don't know what to say when you say you feel suicidal. They don't know how to help you. And you're right. Most hospitals suck.

There are are a few good ones and I was lucky about fifteen years ago to go in the right one. And I think it did really change my life.

Basically, in that hospital, as soon as you got there, the staff and then your therapist (very few
psych units even have therapists as well as Pdocs), asked you what you wanted to work on while you were in the hospital. I remember panicking and wanted to go home; that I was just a totally fucked-up person so how could I decide what to work on.

But then it was really a revelation to me that that's what you do in therapy (in and outside the hospital). You decide what is wrong and how to make it better. And you do it in steps. And if you come unraveled, you have to ravel back up to start to work again. And it's very slow but if you know that you're going somewhere, it doesn't feel as bad. Same with meds: you make a plan and try things.

I'm not trying to make this sound easy. I've been in pain and suicidal for a week now because I thought my pain was never going to go away and I couldn't get hold of the medication that was helping me. But then someone gave me pain medication and hope again. But when I was on the right meds and working with the right therapist, I never wanted to die for more than a day or so at a time.

Anyway, don't mean to be like I did this...., but just wanted to throw out the idea of breaking things down.

all the best,

Shelli

Dear Shelli,
I've been trying for years to decribe what therapy is. . And you nailed it! Thanks! -- Zo

Shelli - This is about as clear and succinct an explanation as I've ever seen. I hope the next time I'm floundering around with the direction of my therapy (most of the time) I can remember this. Thanks

Thanks for that reassurance and clarification. I've got a lot of respect for both of you, and you were clearly in touch with trouble. So I shouldn't really have needed this reassurance- should have guessed it would be OK.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. And of course I send my very best wishes to trouble (direct or via you!)
