new to all this!

Posted by ELA on December 28, 2001, at 10:12:04

Hi there,

I've recently begun treatment for depression following a very serious illness and brush with death. Feel a bit weird about the whole thing so if anyone has some advice I'd really appreciate it. Thanx!

Hello,

What treatment are you on? And have you fully recovered from your illness?

The best advice i can give to you is to always ask questions, talk to your doctor, tell him how you feel about whatever medication you are taking, don't be afraid to be assertive about the way the medication is affecting you, and how it makes you feel; nobody knows your body better than you do.

Use these boards, both Psycho Babble, and Psycho Social Babble are great resources for communication w/ others and information about medication you may be taking.

Third, think about talk-therapy, its a good addition to medication.

Good luck, it may seem like it's a rough ride but keep in mind that especially here, there are a lot of other people who can empathise with you and perhaps give you a word of advice or two in a tough situation.

welcome to the boards. hopefully you can begin to feel comfortable posting whatevers on your mind or any questions you may have. hopefully, we'll be able to help you with most of your questions, almost everyone here can relate to depression, so you shouldnt ever feel like your alone here. as for the rest of the world, some people just dont ever understand, try not to let them get to you, and as for your doctor, be honest with him/her.

Thankyou. I've had some very off-hand treatment from doctors here so I'm glad that I found this site!
