You'll think I'm crazy now

Posted by akc on December 6, 2001, at 0:28:26

I've threatened for days now -- and have carried through with the cutting. And got carried away, so I had to go to the ER. Real smart. However, it has provided the relief I was looking for tonight. Even though it is late, I am actually able to concentrate better on my work than I have all day.

The shame will come tomorrow. I've got group therapy, and will do the right thing and fess up. I will probably leave many voicemails with my therapists, and just be a total pain in the butt. And who knows what will come next. Outside of a few people, I am working hard to keep on that perfect mask -- not letting even my closest friends know much. I feel like a broken record -- always sick -- always having some crisis.

But you guys -- you are enough tangentially there -- well, I don't feel as guilty dumping here so often. Still some guilt, but not as much as if you were here in person.

Back to work -- my document has printed out.

Just had to let you know what I did.

I don't think you're crazy

I don't think you're crazy - we all have to have a way to cope when the pain gets unbearable. Better to cut yourself than to kill yourself.

I used to cut, during the worst part of my depression - wound up with an armful of scars and had to wear long sleeves all the time. One day I was alone in my office after hours and I took off my jacket and my boss came in suddenly and saw my arm. It was particularly difficult since she and I are both mental health professionals!

I'm not sure exactly what made me stop. Partly just taking meds and feeling a little better. And now sometimes when it feels so bad I can't stand it anymore, I take a little more Benadryl than the usual dose and just knock myself out completely.

Hang in there!

akc,

I'm glad you're feeling better, and I hope you can get some work done. I know that's important to you.

Keep it simple.

Hey, akc---I, too, don't think your're crazy. Just hope lyou will feel better soon. Try to not focus on the shame, but on understanding what was going on for yourself and what you need. Take care.
