"Somewhere in a scrapbook
There's a rose you gave to me
And a photograph that's torn in half
And all's that left is meAnd happily ever after darling
Well that came after I was gone
They tell you that you can't go back
Then why can't I go onWhen I should be laughing at this joke
Dressed up as love diguised as hope
Isn't it funny after all this time
A tear is falling, when I should be laughingSunsets like a painting
Windows like a frame
The night comes in and I begin
To see it all againWell I should be laughing at this joke
The damage done, the words I spoke
Isn't it funny after all this time
Regret can find me when I should be laughing
I should be laughing at life and all the tricks that it plays
I should be laughing at time and how fast its slipping awaySomewhere in a scrapbook
There's a rose you gave to me
And with one last look, I close the book
And let the past just beCause I should be laughing at this joke
Dressed up as love, disguised as hope
Isn't it funny after all this time
A tear is falling when I should be laughingIsn't it funny, I should be laughing
And isn't it funny
I should be laughing"Lyrics from a song from one of my favorite cds (Patty Smyth untitled) - co-written by Patty Smyth. Probably just me, but I found the cd a bit of a departure for her.

some people can't laugh at lost dreams of happily ever-after (even if it was never going to possible), some can't laugh at their own mistakes.
So, I guess whichever "feeling" this falls under for me, it's difficult for me to laugh everytime!
I'm unfamiliar with Patty Smyth lyrics. In what way are these different? I liked these!
Thanks for sharing them,

I agree. And, I think, maybe, that's the point of the song, particularly when she sings "Happily ever after darlin, well that came after I was gone . . . ". In other words, the joke's on her? I think it's about bitter ironies and the cruel jokes life can play on us. Nevertheless, I like the song too.
I never bought any of her earlier stuff when she was with the band Scandal (if I remember the name right). Anyways, it was a bit harder rock. She has mellowed I believe as a solo artist.

is probably mellowing by getting a bit older and wiser, too...
