I'd really like to try this but I fear it will be hard to get a prescription for it.

I tried memantine 20 mg/day for a few weeks. I didn't take it long enough, nor did I take a high enough dosage. Lamictal might be helpful in that it inhibits glutamate release, thus reducing the stimulation of NMDA receptors.

Hello,
but isnt 20mg memantine the standard dose for alzheimers? How much would you need for depression/ocd?What worries me about lamictal is side effects. I read lamictal builds up in the retina of the eye and that they dont know if this is safe on the long run. :/

Riluzole is a glutamate inhibitor, not an NMDA antagonist. Namenda is a NMDA antagonist. Other drugs that are glutamate inhibitors are Keppra, Lyrica, Zonegran, Lamictal and Topemax.
Eric
ps. they are taken in conjunction with an SSRI

I dont think I could get riluzole. I think it's also expensive.
I just started with Lamotrigine but I don't think that Lamotrigine is as strong as riluzole. I read about someone who had depression his whole life and nothing worked and when he started riluzole he felt a difference within a week or so. This drug must be very potent.

Riluzole shouldn't be prohibitively expensive.
