Alone time

I do like my alone time. I like people, but I find most people drain me. Anyone else have this problem?

Most definitely. It's become more pronounced with recent years, too. I have my whackadoodle ideas about being empathic and not being able to be around people for too long. Some people refer to it as being highly sensitive, too. I like and need my alone time.

I fear being alone. Yet I can't be with people unless outside and can escape. But no one is even outside anymore. I live in a bubble. Phillipa

I have a job that leaves me with lots and lots of unstructured alone time. I hate it. I chose this profession partly because of the alone time. I was socially awkward and felt uncomfortable around people.

But I think I was never really an introvert. I just had such a traumatic life that I retreated from people. Now that I have been through years of therapy, I am realizing that I need to be around people more. I don't like isolation and alone time. I dread it. But I am stuck with too much of it because of my job.

Hi Sleepygirl2,

I love alone time. I wish at work that I had my own office with a door that locked. I've got someone sitting a few feet from me and I can't tune her out. Yes, I'm sensory defensive so people tend to annoy me in general, but even a partial wall between us would help.

Maybe I'll go hide in my car at lunchtime, though it's in a public parking lot. At least it's my private space.
