Scared of succeeding or maybe it is of failing

Posted by happyflower on October 27, 2008, at 22:20:18

I think I am scared of both, because they both contain implications in one's life that can be good and bad. Like if you succeed, people depend on you, have high expectations of you , but if you fail, people don't see you as competent. Growing up I didn't have either, nobody cared one way or another.
I didn't go to my internship today because I just didn't feel like it. People are really liking me and think I will be a success, but I don't know if I want to be because of the expectations.

But now tomorrow I have another interview for another internship where I was being recommended for. It scared me it seems when people have this much confidence in me. Maybe it has something to do with as a kid, I had to downplay any achievements in order to not make my mom mad or jealous. But I don't have that fear now, but for some reason I want to sabotage myself and I want to hide from these expectations. On the outside I seems very competent and self confident in the work I am doing, but inside, I am scared. It seems like I should be thrilled at others noticing me or having convidence. But I am scared of succeeding and failing, isn't that odd?.

I feel like it's perfectly normal with or without abuse issues or ignoring ones like I had and verbal abuse but if I could succeed at Nursing so can you succeed so go!!!!! You'll be great!!!!! I have great confidence in you. Love Phillipa let me know how it goes.

I'm so with you on that, and it really really sucks. It can be absolutely paralyzing. :(

Hey, twin, sweetie: No, it isn't odd at all.

You were programmed/taught....to fail....it is only natural that you would feel like you do.

The great thing is that now you can make choices. Don't let the past stuff determine your future....Be your own best friend and.....GO FOR IT GURLFRIEND!!

Hugs, yer crazy twin

Okay my interview got canceled this morning due to the interviewer's family emergency, so it is tomorrow right before therapy. Not bad I was thinking, well another person called for another internship that I am also interested in, and it is right after therapy. CAN I SAY STRESS??? I think I so need some good ice cream tomorrow night, don't ya think? Both would be huge challenges for me which I like and I know how to get a job. I do well in interviews, I actually thrive under that pressure, but after wards I want to get in my jammies and sleep. lol

But today I need to buy an outfit because I have gained a bunch of weight and I already threw out my fat clothes, claiming I will never get that fat again. Well guess what, that doesn't always work. I HATE buying clothes when being overweight. It is more like how can I cover the most offending parts while not looking like I am treat treating as a tent. auuuggghhh! Luckily I like black.

HF,

"Ditto" from me on what the others said. I don't think its odd that you're fearing success. Good Luck to you on that interview! Keep that great attitude and sense of humor and you'll continue to do well.

Joni
