What's up with.....

Posted by JayMac on October 8, 2008, at 1:13:09

Tonight I'm totally pacing back and forth. I can't think straight. I colored my hair and it looks ridiculous!!! Seriously! I don't know if I left it in longer than 10 minutes or what, but it came out reddish plum-ish. I feel like a motor is running inside my body. I was just on the phone with this guy I just started "seeing" (whatever that means) and we ended up in an argument that I completely started. I thought I got my energy out, I worked out intensely for 45 minutes.
Not sure if all of this is my anxiety, my hypomania, or both. Probably a mix of both.

I've been wondering lately if I'm borderline. I think a have many traits of a typical borderline personality, but I don't know if I deserve such a hefty Axis II disorder.

Sounds like you are struggling to deal with anger and disappointment? I dont think you really want to go down the personality disorder labels. Even "normal" people have their "off" days and perhaps if you sat down with yourself for a while and perhaps journalled about what was really going on then that may be more useful for you? A label doesn't explain "you"..

Hi JM,

I agree with Cal. You can have some borderline traits, have an anxious, argumentative, hypomanic day, and purplish hair (my daughter AIMS for that!) There is no JayMac diagnosis in the DSM - you are just you, and that's just fine :)

I agree with everyone!

Labels suck. They do not define you as a person. They give some "characteristic behaviors" that may be indicative of a way a person relates, but everyone can have days when behavior differs. If you read the DSM, you could probably put yourself into alot of labels.

I personally think that the only purpose of a label is to use it to get insurance benfits. For example, it is "better" to give someone a PTSD or Bipolar label than a Borderline label, because there is bias in insurance companies because they feel that Borderline requires lengthy treatment and is hopeless, so instead give someone a Bipolar 2 label. Ironically Bipolar 2 or Bipolar 1 or PTSD can also require long and lengthy treatment as well.
(Insurance sucking is another topic of discussion)

Guess what, many of the symptoms of PTSD/Bipolar/Borderline overlap. Can people really separate these diagnosis?

The mind is too complex to simplify it into "categories" or labels.

Just my 2 cents...

Thank you ALL for responding to my post. I know it's already been a few days, but I wanted to let you know that your thoughts were/are helpful. Sometimes I get caught in the web of diagnosis. I'm so glad my T doesn't look at me as a label.

Thanks again =)
