Child abuse in the news, how nieve people are

Posted by lemonaide on September 24, 2008, at 19:05:45

There was a local 4yr. old died from child abuse in our news. People left messages on at the news website about it. So many people are no naive when it comes to child abuse.

They assume it was the stepfather, not the mother, even though more child abuse is committed by mothers.
Some claim the older teens should have reported it.
Some wonder how in the earth could relatives or neighbors not notice.
They say, they were some of the nicest people they knew.
Most people really don't know what goes on in other people's homes, even relatives. It is sad but true. How could they blame the teens, I am sure they were just as scared to turn their parents in. Heck I am 39 and would be scared to do it even now.

Sad. So very sad.

And people assume the child would/should tell.
People can't possibily comprehend that when the fear of god is beaten into a child not to open their mouth, that YES- they are going to remain silent.

People do not understand the dynamics of abuse and therefore they say stupid things like "why didn't you tell someone" or "why didn't she just leave." People can not understand the fear and confusion a child feels, no matter what age. Children should never be in that position and it is un-natural for it to exist.
