Is there anything in your T office that is weird .

Posted by Lemonaide on July 18, 2008, at 14:02:12

and you want to ask about it, but you don't? lol

My T has thing thing on the edge of his desk closest to me that is sort of a calendar/ statue of a band that says let the stress begin. I notice the calender changes just once in awhile. SOme days I just want to get up and set the correct date!

Then behind the other chair in the other corner of his office, there is a cobweb that has been their for ages. Now his office is messy but clean but that web bothers me. I feel like a big creepy spider will come out from that chair and attack me. lol Now I know his office is dusted and all because his window blinds are not dusty or anything else.
What about you? anything weird or strange?

Heh, that cobweb would bother me too. am very much arachnophobic!

I miss having a T. that has their own office. :o(
(the psychologist I used to see had his own office-- it felt more comfortable somehow-- like I got a glimpse into HIS world)-- speaking of-- one time I was there and along came a spider across the carpet towards me!! yipes!! T. didn't notice as I started wiggling in my chair-- I kept looking at it hoping he would look down too.......I soon started dissociating, had to yell within myself to --"come back!".... and then I said-- "Ummmmm there's.... there's a spider coming towards me...... I dont care for spiders"... and then he calmly got out of his chair and disposed of it-- ahhhh... my hero! :o)

My current therapist works at a clinic, where 4-6 therapists share the same office-- so the office is quite empty and generic.

There was a framed photo of pigs in his old office. But it didn't show up in his new office.

I always wondered the significance of a crowd of pigs.

Hi Mandy,

I think I would feel very uncomfortable doing therapy in a place like that. My T has a center where several T's work in , but it is an old redone house. In the waiting room, it looks like a typical living room except for the counter where the secretary works. He even picked some roses growing in his backyard to put in the different areas.

I am too terrified of spiders. I told my T that yes I have a phobia, and no I don't want to do anything about it. lol Because I know that would eventually lead to me holding on, and there is no way I am going to do that. lol

He had this feathered thing on his bookshelf for a while, and I could never figure out what it is (honestly, it kind of looked like a dead bird). I always wanted to ask, but never got up the nerve. He has a new office, so not sure if it will reappear (everything's still in boxes pretty much).

Clocks. At least three of them. As if someone might lose track of time.

yes, but I like it

he puts the things I've given him on his bookcase shelf on one particular end

it's weird,
not that I've really given him a lot of things

I kind've expected him to throw some of it away

I did mention something once. Something neutral of course. That I saw most of the stuff from the old office, but not the photo of the pigs. And that I'd always wondered what significance that one had, since he once told me that everything in his office had significance.

He doesn't dodge questions often, so I assumed it was something he couldn't properly share. Like that it was from a client or something.

I don't know!!!

I walk in, take a quick look around the room glance for safety, and sit and stare at the floor. LOL.

I did once read that when you start to notice your therapists office, you are becoming more comfortable in the relationship???

In one of his office there is what appears to be a madonna - a small one - on his desk, near the vase that always has flowers. I've always wanted to ask about it...because he is Jewish!

I seem to have taken over my own little corner on his desk - things I have given him are all displayed. I like that, it makes me feel like I've had an impact - like leaving a part of myself with him.

Good thread.

Okay. Mine has a framed print, one of those motivational posters, saying "Leadership" and some sort of inspirational phrase underneath.

I hate to say it, but it is the lamest thing I've ever seen.

I'm always shocked when I walk into my T's office and see pix of my kids. She keeps them around, and while I like it that she cares, it's still kind of spooky to do therapy with your kids looking at you. She has moved them several times--maybe it's not fair to other patients, but they're usually there somewhere.

My pdoc's office is completely barren of anything personal. I recently found out that he shares it with someone else. He works with children a lot and has a bookcase full of toys and games that make me laugh. Maybe I'll ask to play with them sometime, but he probably wouldn't let me, because I'm an ADULT after all and not a child. Rules, rules, rules.

Hey... I've heard those particular motivational posters are actually quite expensive office decor... seriously. :) But I agree, they're often lame.

I would SOOO play with the toys...I think it's good to play sometimes...besides, it would keep my hands busy and prevent me from picking at my fingers the whole time :/

I HATE HATE HATE all the clocks. Both of the ppl. I've been to have several clocks. I always pick the one that's the slowest (including my watch) and say it's not time for the end of our session until that clock says so... :P

I notice EVERYTHING in the offices and any change...

My old counselor had a lobster buoy...I had NO idea what it was and had to ask...I guess I didn't really care to ask about the significance...but wonder now...

My new counselor has tons of stuff...he has a plant and when there are fallen leaves, I always make him clean them up (i used to work at a greenhouse)

He also has a friend down the hall who comes in sometimes and puts weird little creepy figurines around...last time, he thought he got them all but I found 3 more during our session...one was a little pope...

YEs, it is a bit disconcerting. :o(
No pictures on the walls, just a couch and two chairs.... she has to write things down leaning over to an end table-- there isn't even a desk in the tiny room, not a window either..... but my most wonderful, fabulous and insightful T. makes up for such a place. She is the safest, nicest and most intelligent person I have ever ever met! Like we've been talking about my lack of any friends- and she said-- "Oh mandy-- you are so missing out on the yummy stuff that women share and experience together!"-- I thought that was cute-- now I keep wondering about that "yummy" stuff! :o) (I was never curious before!)

OH my Gosh! that sounds so lovely. so comfy and all-- you are very lucky! :o)

Gee after reading all these posts... seems I'm in the minority of going to a T. that doesn't have their own office. :o( *sigh*..... I wish she had her own office-- that would make it even more perfect! heh-- "more perfect"?? that doesn't really make sense, does it.... well... hope you know what I mean.

this thread has been interesting to read-- thank you all.

His plant that was dying for the past few years and has finally given up the ghost.

His books next to his desk - dictionary, some sort of professional directory - I have not seen these books MOVE AN INCH since I've been seeing him. Maybe they are painted on.

I love this thread! There are some weird stuff lurking in our T's office besides the T themselves.
