Bit stressed out today.

Posted by arora on September 4, 2007, at 7:45:40

I'm really struggling today- very teary.
can't seem to stop crying, but for no reason.
I need to go out, but I can't. Big building construction site down the road- men, all swearing, aggressive- I'm so frightened of them.
I can't walk past it today- on bad days I can't do it... it makes me feel sick with fear.

I need to go out, and I'm so angry with myself for letting this get to me. On good days it doesn't bother me. Today I'm trapped.
Oh, WHY am I such a mess?? Stupid, stupid weak.

Aurora, please stop kicking yourself, we all got our 'stuff'. Me too.
Is there a way you could sneak by them guys somehow?
Dress down?
Wear loud music in your ears and blank them out?
Is there anyone to walk with you?
Can you walk in a diff diection?
Is there a time of day when there are more people walking by, so you can walk 'with' them?
Are you OK to take a cab?
Those workers being ongoingly down the street are proly an ongoing source of stress for you, I'm sorry.
I wonder if self defense classes are an option? To build up your sense of personal physical safety? They often include not just the physical stuff, but the mental stuff of defense. Truly the mental stuff is MORE important.
I guess I could say sappy stuff bout whats going on in those guys minds, its proly not that bad.. but I don't know that it'd be useful to you. Just know, that there's proly not any ACTUAL harm in them as long as there's people around, and they won't ALL be bad, just a few jerks...
I realize if you scared it only takes 1 jerk to freak you :-(
Well, take it easy, maybe you can just sit on your porch awhile? Or draw pics of other places? Are you churched at all? Mebbe someone from a church could take you out? People DO love to help others, makes them feel stronger and safer themselves...You could phone a local church, talk to the pastor, and ask if there's a ladies group, then mebbe one of the ladies would give you a ride? You may have to search a bit. All churches are NOT created equal IMHO...but some seem to do some good stuff.
Just thots,
Thinking of you,
Muffled

Sorry today is hard for you - I've got construction workers around me, too, and their eyes are all I can feel if I have to walk outside.
One thing I do to make myself feel stronger is to put something hefty in my pocket. An ashtray, or a stone, something bulky and heavy. It weighs me downs. It's conspicuous, and I can put my hand on it and feels its security. I can use it if I ever need to - though it's not likely that I would. But I have it, and my hand is on it, and it makes me feel more safe when I do.

anyway today I left the house before they started working- thanks for all your ideas!

I wish it didn't upset me so, because it makes me feel really bad about myself.

thanks for caring. :-)

ClearSkies-
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks of carrying rocks around! the prob is that my inner child (aka. Wednesday Addams) tends to over-react and wants to boil up cauldrons of oil to tip over their heads. :-D
