Birthday Card from T

Posted by TherapyGirl on January 22, 2007, at 20:32:45

Just wanted to share with all of you the card my T sent me this year. She has sent one every year for the last several years, but this year's is a little late, so of course I thought she had forgotten. But I got it today and here's what she said:

"Happy Birthday! What a year (and more) it has been -- there was no card that could capture it.

You have been through a "Dark Night of the Soul," persevered, fought for life and now claim it.

It has been a rough ride at times for both of us, but truly, TG, for me, it is a privilege.

I do appreciate the woman you have grown to be, the person you are -- the whole package. I celebrate your life and the richness of being a part of it.

Happy Birthday!

Love,
T"

She has never, ever, ever signed a card "Love, T" before, so that was a nice surprise. And I'm a little overwhelmed and a lot touched by her note. I don't have many people to share this with (just one besides you guys), so I hope it's okay for me to post this here.

That is really special TherapyGirl. I got goose bumps too! What a fabulous T you have. What she wrote is very touching. It's nice to see that there really are good, caring T's out there. :)

Regards,

Oh therapygirl, how special. That is really beautiful. It's so nice that she did that for you. I hope you hold on to it and treasure it. I know I would.

Of course its okay to post that! I love hearing things like that. Loving behavior like that from a T is something thats hard to understand unless you've had that kind of relationship. But it's so, so special. :)

How special this is for you. Cherish the card, the words and her forever. Too bad there can't be more T's as good as she is. Mine is up there too. And I consider is a very good thing to have someone show that they can be loving and caring.
Thanks for sharing this here, it's the perfect thing to do.

Hi TherapyGirl,

I'm jealous. I saw my therapist on my birthday and she didn't say anything. What a wonderful T (and what a wonderful client you must be to work with.) Happy belated birthday.

Ya, also jealous. I was lucky if my former T (Captain Boundaries) would write my next appointment on a business card! :-)

Thanks, Everybody.

And just so we're clear, I'm often NOT a wonderful client to work with. I'm basically the one that called her up a few months ago and called her a big fat liar because I saw her car at the office while she was on vacation. I also stormed out and told her to F*** herself when she switched offices and I hated the new one. And there have been many, many moments like that over the years. But somehow she keeps putting up with me and usually manages to teach me something in between. I honestly don't know what I would have done if I hadn't found her. I often tell close friends that she is actually the person who raised me. She's certainly the one who's taught me all the important things about making my way in the world, apologizing (we've gone over that lesson a LOT), caring for people and letting them care for me, and all the other things that make us decent human beings. Lord knows, I never learned any of it from my MOTHER.

Thanks again for being so sweet about my post. I didn't want it to seem like I was bragging and yet I wanted to share it because I knew you all would understand what it means to me.
