Cognitive Analytical Therapy

Posted by cubic_me on January 4, 2007, at 13:23:21

I'm starting this in a few weeks (I've nearly given up on my current therapist (of 6 weeks), we are on completely different wavelengths).

Does anyone have any experience/thoughts on it?

I think Alex mentioned it on chat.
I'd never heard of it before.
If you see her there you could ask her.
Muffled

I think the therapist actually tries to figure out what underlies our problems in that type of therapy and how our cognitions or perceptions contribute to that.
Something about dilemmas traps and snags. I don't know too much about it but it's worth a try, the cognitive stuff is good when mixed in with something else I think.

Thanks Canadagirl. I'm not too keen on the cognitive stuff alone, but hopefully this is a bit of a diluted version! I know it was designed for the UK's NHS as a compromise between dynamic/analytic therapy and CBT. I suppose I'll just have to wait and see how it works for me!
