Ever scare yourself into depression?

Posted by becksA on May 23, 2006, at 14:46:15

Sometimes, rarely these days, I will begin to remember the days when I was extremely depressed, and it will gradually build up in my mind, going over and over it again until the point where I actually feel depressed again! Ever had that happen anybody? It's tough to fight off other than distract yourself with something.

Definitely, yes. Especially if I recall my OD attempt and hospitalization. I always get depressed on the anniversary. I get so afraid I might go through another depression that bad someday again that I scare myself into high anxiety and then depression happens.

Yes...this happens to me sometimes, not for a long time, but I can fall into it for a few moments and then have to jerk myself out of it.

Depression is tricky. Once you have had it a few times, I think there is this pattern that can be easy to fall into. And even when the thing that triggered it is resolved or gone, the depression that was triggered can take on a life of its own.

It helps to just focus on the tasks of living at those times.
