Interesting how this made me feel » curtm

Interesting thread curt, i read the first list and wasn't at all surprised that i wasn't there it just confirmed what i believed to be true that i'm an insignificant worm on the face of the earth. I couldn't bring myself to ask you what you might put to my name because all i could imagine was you saying 'milly who?' or 'oh i never bothered to think of one!'
So when i read your next list i was unbelievably happy to see my name there, way beyond what was a probable 'normal' reaction, but almost instantly plunged into a deep anxiety about all the other 'worms' who might have been forgotten by accident(a bit like the thank-yous at a
wedding etc)

Please don't read this as a critisism I thoought it was an interesting and fun thread but i also thought it was interesting what my reactions to it were (well interesting for me anyway!)

Maybe I hurt someone's feelings by not posting your name. It actually did cross my mind how some may react, I tend to make short posts because I have an IQ of about 28. I am also usually limited on time. I would like youo know that if your name wasn't listed in the posts, it IS on the list in my tiny brain and my big heart.

Maybe my name should be "worm-boy"

I'll say I felt good that you thought of me and gave me a cool one, even though you typo'd my name. We had just been talking though. I have a vague face/body attached to everyone as I get to know their posting style, sentence structure. I've only seen pictures of three people, and that affects only a little of their image. They are more senses of a personality, sex, age - not actually what someone may look like as far as physical characteristics.

Sometimes something will happen to totally change the image, something personal they post, then it either stays modified, or goes back to the original mental image. I thought Racer was UK for some reason for instance, and when I read she wasn't it may have changed her haircut.

It's interesting, because this is real communication, without prejudice. Just thoughts and minds. No race, size, age, accent, to influence the exchange.

A few people I talk too, I don't even know their gender for sure, so I try to keep it nuetral just in case.

I think the visual aspect of the word they choose as a posting name even subtly influences my mental feeling of them. Some have changed their name, and the feeling slightly changes with the new name.

Rambling again.

Hey -- I'm looking for a new hairstyle! What did you pick, and how does it look?

Take care, James.

Hi Racer,

Okay, you got me on the not very pretty in a dark delicate way that Dorothy Parker was, but beautiful? Somebody must have doctored up those photos and air brushed out some parts of me.

You know, mine is very straight forward, which is true of my personality. I'm Bonnie, and I live in California. Hmm. Not very original or interesting, but I always look at things as they are. It's not "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar", it's ALWAYS a cigar. :D

That's funny -- somehow I thought "Bonnie in Canada!"

Dunno why, since I'm in California, too...

No name and no face

I feel very sad that, although I have posted here possibly hundreds of times in the past three years- no-one thinks of me. I thought I was a member of this community, because I shared my own problems honestly, have shared humor and hope- not just despair-and have also written many supportive, caring posts. I guess I know better than to keep trying.

I only read this thread because you posted on it. I'm not there either.

But you are in my mind, part of the foundation of Babble.

Hey, you two are some of my most favorite Babblers! I always read what you write. I always learn something and you are two of the most compassionate and supportive people on here. I wouldn't have made a lot of the progress I have if I hadn't learned from you both.
Take care both of you. A little ice cream perhaps?

I'm sorry this thread brought out so much sorrow in many, and I am sure there are more. But it also brings up a good point. It is so easy to make someone feel left out by the mere absence of their name. Like not having your picture published in a yearbook or having your name mispelled in the newspaper. It feels like some people just don't care. I have felt this way a lot in my life. It wasn't my intent to make anyone feel left out. It was an effort to belong. I am new here and learning more every day how harmful the most innocent gesture can be. I apologize. I shall now go hang my head.

Oh honey, I wouldn't be me without you.

You gave me a precious gift when you took the courage to ask me to try on a new idea. You guided me to it.

I have no idea what a pfinstegg is, but it is very precious.

I have a horrible memory, but I still remember Larry's heartfelt thank you about you helping him...I hadn't seen the original thread, so I looked for it to see what you'd said to him, but I never did find it. I've gotten so much from other babblers - there's no way I could really open up in therapy w/o babble. There's genuine warmth and caring among so many people on this board. My social skills suck, so I'm probably not good when I respond to posts.

Curt,

I'm fine. Don't hang your head for me.

I don't know what the solution to this is. This thread is a fun thread. It is impossible to mention everyone on Babble. People will feel left out.

But no worries on my account.

You know I not only care, but come looking for you occasionally. I've always thought of you blazing the way on the trail that I'm on. Please don't go away from that. I need a guide!

If you're blazing the way on the trail for Daisy and she's doing the same for me, I'd be totally lost if you weren't here. In fact, I might have given up by now.

I know I haven't talked to you, but I read all of your posts and I appreciate them because I learn so much. And I miss you when you're not around. (I always hope it's because you're doing so much better.)

I'm sorry you're hurting.

Take care,

Thanks for that, Caedmon! I loved hearing the poem--there's an audiotape on the wikipedia page you cited.

And here I thought you were a poetry (and possibly other) recording company.

Old English sure is grand, don't you think?
