I miss my therapist.

Posted by madeline on April 10, 2006, at 22:02:56

I'm traveling on business and had to miss my apointment. I just gave a talk to a room full of strangers.

I'm sitting alone in a hotel room, in a strange city and I miss my T and my horde of pets and my house.

I'm really a sad case.

Which is unusual because I guess I SHOULD be happy. My career, obviously, is going well since I am getting invited to speak, but I feel very sad and very alone.

The upside is, it's a very nice hotel with a very comfortable bed.

But it's not mine. You know?

I want to go home.

I'm sorry youre feeling so lonely.

I can really relate to how you're feeling. A month ago, I was down in Florida presenting at a conference by myself too.. and it did feel lonely. Even though your career is going well, it doesnt mean you have to feel a certain way though. Sometimes I think the "shoulds" make me feel as bad as anything else. Maybe thats just me.

I feel as if this comment has been completely unhelpful.. I'm not sure that I have anything great to add. I just wanted to say I can relate and I'm sorry you're hurting. Hang in there.

Congrats on your presentation!

Hey Maddy -- when I travel I try to do phone sessions if possible. If not, I will write out a journal page, sort of like a letter, just to let my therapist know what I'm thinking and feeling.

Ok - rules about hotel rooms. You get to turn up the heat, or air conditioning, as much as you want. You can take a long hot bath or shower, if you are into that.

You order room service and sit in your pjs, with wet hair and eat in bed watching movies.

And you can chat in Open too, if you are lucky enough to connect with someone.

I need a hotel room right now...

Madeline, I totally relate. Sorry this is so hard for you. I'll be thinking about you. Can you check in with your T by phone if you need to?

I've had this feeling b4 maddy.....minus the successful career, but your post made me think of the guy who wrote "homecoming" he talked about being very successful, but feeling very alone when he traveled too.

It's good that it's a nice hotel, but I guess because it's not home, it's not with your pets, and it's not familiar, it feels lonely.

Good that you're connected to the internet. I've never had that when I've traveled. Daisy had some great, and uplifting, ideas. Hope you get home soon, and get to see your T.

Thanks guys for all of your support. I saw my T as soon as I landed and we had a good session.

It's strange, but for YEARS I never knew I was lonely. But as my connection with my T has deepened, I realize very acutely, how lonely I have been for so so many years.

I hope that I can be brave enough to start letting people into my life to stave off this ache.

But I don't know.

Oh, and by the way, my flight was delayed out of Memphis and I missed every connection along the way. I barely made it home in time for my appointment.

If I had missed it, I would have sued AirTran.

Hey Maddie,

Glad you are home safe and sound, don't ya just hate those delays especially when you has such a nice thing to come home to?
You know it was through my relationship with my T, that I realize that I could learn to trust again, and I also saw how much I miss people in my life. I hate when my T says this, but it is true I guess, that our theraputic relationship is like a practice relationship for real life. We can try things out first with them. Blah, blah, lol I can think of a lot of things I would like to try out! LOL sorry about that one. LOL
Glad you had a good session, I love those! Take care Maddie! Glad to have y ou back! ((((((Maddie))))
