ok, so i had all kind of speeches ready, and i had print outs from you guys and some websites stating my rights about my file and how she can't 'just have it'.
i even expected attitude from her and was going to argue back that it wasn't about her it was me, for me, about me...etc.i got there all full of attitude but remained calm. and of course all my responses shot to h@ll. i brought up about the file and my concerns and that the reason i wanted to start fresh was to be with someone who wasn't familiar with my background and could give me an unbiased opinion. well anyway she showed me that they did write 2/2 on the folder meaning this was file 2, which means my old T didn't lie...i should have trusted him more. anyway, i told her that there were some things that i wrote to my T that i didn't want her to read and asked if i could read what i wrote to see if i wanted to tell her or not...she let me read it! she said it's about you not me...dang it all that's what i was going to say to her!
so i thumbed through it, i didn't want to read his notes...probably not the best for me, course now i wish i did, anyway i re-read what i wrote about my 'mother' and things i remember when i was young. of course it was like the third page into the document so there is good likely hood that she read it...i don't know..part of me actually trusts her that she didn't?...i must be improving.**what do you all think, do you think she read some of the file? would she have just read his notes or my papers?
anyway-she was fine with closing that file and starting a new one. when session was done i even followed her to the office (needing to cancel next week appt -unrelated) and heard her saying to receptionist to close that file and open a new one.man i feel so much better. i still think she read some of it...but i like that she respected my wishes and at least fronted that she would start new.
man i wish my old T wouldn't have left so soon. i miss him something terrible.

Oh, I'm so glad. I know that was really scary for you, and I don't blame you. And that's great that she let you read through it. Man, I would have bolted with it, so I could read through the whole thing at my leisure. And then apologized later ;) Or at least, that's what I'd have done in fantasy. Like you, IRL I probably would have thumbed through and then later wished I'd read all his notes.
You know, if you think she's a good therapist, then I bet she really didn't read the file. Otherwise, I would guess she would have told you that she'd read some of it, and then you would have talked about that. I think in good therapy, the honesty thing goes both ways, and therapists know that. If she lies to you, then there will be an energy there that will be an obstacle to your trust, whether you know for a fact that she lied or not. That's my opinion, but I may be totally wrong.

what s@ks is that i just have to trust her and what she says to be true and that goes against every grain in my body!
but growth right?and it's true about the truth thing, it is supposed to go both ways. i hope that's true.
maybe later i'll ask to see it again. to read a bit more.

I'm glad it worked out ok.
She said she hasn't read any of it? I think I'd try to believe her. And it seems that she's handling it well now. Which is all that can be changed anyway. The future and the present.
I'm glad your first therapist told you the truth. That would be even more upsetting to me than any action on T2's part.

i Agree COMPLETELY!! i would have been really hurt!

it was a huge step for me. i still have reservations and think she read part of it. but i'm handling it which is the good part.
