What Does your Therapist Play for Muzak?

Posted by Susan47 on March 30, 2005, at 13:04:13

My new T doesn't have anything, her office is above the entrance area, you buzz up. But you can hear through the doors, she shares the building with other prof types, they must get a lovely earful at times, their doors are open .. it's a heritage house or something, so the doors are old wooden with the big gap at the bottom, wow oh wow the stuff I've told her about desire and stuff ... and that's just me, not all her other clients who probably cry and raise their voices, maybe leave in a huff sometimes .. it must be interesting to share quarters with her.
My old T, he used to play radio with classical music .. I think that's strange, because even though a lot of people filter music in and out of consciousness and it's nothing to them, for people like me, it's hugely mood-exacerbating material, no matter what the format, music is mind, and it just seems to me, that deliberately causing mood changes in your clients is a bit, well, irresponsible .. or is it done to expedite therapy? Do you think some therapists actually engage in that sort of behaviour?

How can I move this over to Psychology?

Wow, I am a little surprised your T isnt more concerned about soundproofing. There are about six offices where my T practices. They play music most of the time but its usually just a local easy listening station. Sometimes its a horrid jazz CD. All the T's have double doors too. Oddly though, my T walks right out into the waiting room every week and says, Hi Bent! I think, duh, why bother with soundproofing!? Oh well, doesnt bother me though. I would say something to your T if you are concerned about it.

She doesn't seem concerned, so I suppose I shouldn't be either. But I'm not seeing her right now in any case, I probably won't be seeing her for awhile. My finances won't allow it and I don't have the heart in any case, my heart's not in it. I'm stuck.. again.

wasn't there a movie about people doing evil things while singing "I'm a Little Teapot"? Darn, I can't remember what it was called, but it was pretty cool...

Oh Emmy, you are so absolutely, completely zany and hilarious - your posts just make my day!!

And you know...it could be worse..perhaps, "It's a Small, Small, small, small, small...WORLD!" OR,
if your T. was truly offensive and over the top...maybe, "They're Coming to Take You Away...", very softly, in the background....

Sorry, all - don't mean to offend anyone - TofuEmmy just triggers that warped sense of humor I can't seem to control lately (<< shifting the blame..)

Sorry {giggle} --10der (who does have old issues surrounding Disney...)
