OOOH! I liked this EMDR session!

Posted by partlycloudy on September 29, 2004, at 17:05:33

Because it gave me a place to put my emotions during the day that get me into trouble (tears, outbursts, the best sulk in the world).
T had me visualize a container in which to place my emotions when situations arise that provoke a negative response in me - see above. I came up with an old-fashioned lobster trap. The baddies can get in, but they can't get out unless I take them out myself.
As a visual reminder, I brought a small hinged box with me to work today. Things can get quite hectic and when I found I was becoming anxious, I stopped long enough to identify the emotion I was feeling. Wrote it on a piece of paper. Put it in the box, and removed my emotional response from the event by doing so.
Took the papers home with me to mull over while more rational and in a soothing environment.

It made my day much more pleasant for myself and others.
I guess I'm not yet done with EMDR....

That's amazing.

It sounds like you might be turning into a mature person!

Me too, please.

I have many more miles to go to become mature. I do feel I have a great team leading me and supporting me. it's all about women sticking together. I have faith,

Just talked to my T today about how to deal with hubby as an equal partner and not as the dependent child role I 've been playing for so long. (Hubby is not reponding well :(.....)

PC, I love that metaphor. I just love it. Can I borrow it, please?

Glad things are going better.

I like the box idea. I'm going to do it too. I think I might need a truck to bring it to work though.
