I just started taking Wellbutrin XL for ADHD, Primarily the Inattentive type, last Friday. The doctor started me on 300mg a day in the morning right off with no initial period of a lower dose to start off. The first night I had horrible runny nose and all. I thought it was a coincidental sinus infection, since I woke up Saturday with that feeling. I haven't really had any other side effects except dizziness if I jump up too fast for the most part. However, although the sinus problems are bareable now just sitting at home, they are still fairly intolerable for class, etc. This is the first time I have suspected it to be related to Wellbutrin because today was the first day I had the sinus headache some people mention. Like it is more than just one part of my head, it carries through my sinuses. Now since this is only Day 4, I know that I should just put up with it and wait for these effects to subside. I am on Thanksgiving break until next Monday so I'm able to do that. I just wanted to see other people's reaction to the situation.

I had taken Wellbutrin for a while about 5 years back, when I was first diagnosed with ADHD. I found it didn't help that enough, but made me feel wonderful otherwise. beware-it WILL increase your sex drive-the opposite of all the other anti-depressants. I never had any sinus symptoms, and eventually went off of it to switch to Ritalin, which works incredibly for my ADD. - I have lots of trouble organizing house, getting dinner cooked, etc. Later on, I ended up on antidepressants for their traditional use, starting with Prozac, then after a few years on that, found the effectiveness decreasing. I switched to Effexor XR, which worked pretty well.I have just slowly come off that, while increasing the dose of Wellbutrin. I decided to switch back, since my husband is now taking an antidepressant-Paxil, which also takes away sex drive like all the rest of these. I am experiencing dizziness, which I'm told will subside quickly. I need to take dramamine for it, as the dizzyness is strong enough to really effect my life. I have had no sinus trouble at all. I have had stressful events in my life recently, especially in the last week. I feel much more teary than I have in a long time while on the Effexor. I'm wondering if the Wellbutrin isn't going to be right for me, now that I'm taking it for depression. Maybe I would have felt teary anyway, but this is a definite change from how I felt on the Effexor. No sinus stuff at all though. You can take Ritalin with Wellbutrin, which I am. I'd go with the Ritalin for ADD. My three kids all take Ritalin, and my daughter has tried Concerta( a long acting form of Ritalin), Strattera,(which had no positive effect in controlling ADD symptoms AT ALL- teacher said she acted as if she was drunk with no inhibitions in class. I recently tried Adderall for myself, at the suggestion of the Dr. so I'd have to remember only one dose per day, not 3. That didn't work nearly as well as the Ritalin, and I have switched back. I get more clarity, and more hours of it with the Ritalin. I take 20 mg. of Ritalin
3 times per day, with 4 hours between. I can tell when it's worn off and I'm overdue for next dose. My twin boys require a dose every 3 hrs, and daughter requires a dose every 3 3/4hrs. They take 10 mg. each time, and are 9, 9, and 10 yrs.
THe max, time Ritalin can last for each dose is 4 hours. Is the ADD diagnosis new to you? Maybe you have tried other meds and know all this. I was under the impression that you had just recieved the diagnosis, or that this was the first med. treatment. Hope it works out for you. I can't imagine life without meds for ADD, now that I've seen how much better it can be. Good luck! Let us know what happens with the sinuses, etc.

Yes this is my first medication and I appreciate your feedback. I had a bad dry cough for a good while beforehand and perhaps the Wellbutrin just inflamed it when my body wasn't use to it? I might end up augmenting Concerta or something, but I chose to start on Wellbutrin because a lot of my problem is motivation which I think might be, well most likely is, linked to depression.

Sorry if it's confusing, but there are a number of boards here, and (just plain) Psycho-Babble is the one for medication-related issues. Here's a link:
