Well that's one way to stop the noise

In an unprecedented move, Canadian PM Stephen Harper called on the Governor General (that's the Queen's representative) to halt Parliament.

"Uncharted territory" is how the news story referred to it.

I feel terribly far from home right now.

Evidently Harper is running for the hills and trying to avoid being kicked out.

Wow! That blows my mind, PC. I would feel disconnected if I lived in Canada.

It is also very scary pertaining to your economy.
I'm stunned...
I've never heard of anyone doing something that drastic. Well, our politicians leave for home to avoid a vote on certain bills but I don't think that is nearly as drastic to the people as your situation may turn out to be.

He is expecting those loyal to Canada to join him. It is the three party leaders mainly who are causing the fuss, neither of whom are capable of leading the country as individuals, and certainly not capable of agreeing on policy. Let them lead and see what happens. Then maybe Canadians will wake up and elect a majority government. Canadians do not want 3 elections in 2 years. At least in Canada we can announce the election, and have it a month later. We're all adults. Let's figure this out.

So much more can be accomplished in a spirit of unity than division. Division's purpose is to divide focus, and destroy the government. We're in a time of economic crisis. It is time to work together for solutions, and Stephen Harper is the man. We need to focus on issues, not politics. By dissolving parliament, which barely began, he will be better able to focus on issues, which he needs to do rather than have all that other schmuk to deal with.

Please be sensitive to the opinions of others, including the opinions of those who may not agree with your point of view. It's fine to express your beliefs here, provided you do so in a civil manner -- which includes presenting your opinions AS opinions, rather than presenting your opinions as statements of fact. You've been warned about this sort of thing quite recently; you have, in fact, been blocked for it quite recently, therefore I am choosing to block you from posting for 2 weeks.

I'd also like to remind everyone here that this warning applies to everyone, liberal and conservative. We have made it clear we will be keeping a closer eye on the Politics board, and applying Babble's civility guidelines here more strictly. Please keep this in mind when choosing what to post. It might be helpful to ask another poster to act as a Civility Buddy for you, and read your posts before you submit them.

If you have any questions regarding the posting policies on this site, please read the FAQ, located at http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#civil Follow ups to this action should be directed to the Administration board and should themselves be civil.

In my morning Toronto Star read, there was a big *late breaking news* post that they crammed in almost after the paper was to publish. Read my lips..:)

Liberal Leader Stephane Dione is expected to quit his leadership role as of Dec. 25/08. (He is the one everyone say's that can't beat Harper.) The Liberals are likely to go with the talented Michael Ignatieff as leader. Liberal Michael Ignatieff, in many new polls and surveys, is shown that he can beat a Harper Conservative government, by a strong margin, and Canadians all ready really like Ignatieff. Michael Ignatieff in a coalition, will be the next Prime Minister of Canada. So long Mr. Harper. :-) (And I am being civil, just reporting the facts backed up by data.)

Really?
He's been in the quality press for years, unless there's another Ignatieff.

IMO, Isaiah Berlin is the best guide to politics.
