hmmm...
"freed the people of Iraq" you say ...
1) not on the list of reasons we invaded;
2) hard to say what Iraqis have been freed from
given the operations of Abu Ghraib seem unremarkably different while the management's changed;
3) freed from regular electrical service by U.S. military campaign against their infrastructure, maybe?we need to define "freed" here a little bit.
does it mean to be "freed" to be eventually dominated by Iran?
if we are to suppose it means to be freed from an oppressive political tyranny, then we should note that Cuba has universal health care and free education.
we should free Florida to have those things
and
maybe Florida's votes should count for presidential elections too?Maybe we should be doing more to free people from tyrannical political oppression even closer to home, like the cultural of corruption, cronyism and incompetence running the current regime in washington?

Bobby posts:

but not great ones, really.
not really good enough to ask our heroes to die for.
in my opinion.
sure, Havanna is a heck of a town i hear ...
... but would you be willing to give your life for it?
... could we be asking others to die for it?
i'd have to pass.if you could rationalize us needing to liberate Canada,
all of your reasons apply there even better ...
except Havanna ...but what about Montreal?
i've never been!that Canadian government has been so repressive lately.
while you're for invading other countries, i'm over here wanting the u.s. to pull our troops out
... of Texas!~ jim

I didn't get the feeling that L'il Jimi was questioning that at all. I thought his facetiouness was actually making the point being questioned in the thread. A genuine (emphasis on "genuine" ) humanitarian liberation doesn't appear to be on the priority list.

> Plus we need Havanna backWhy??? Meyer Lansky is dead... He was the big loser in the 'Bay of Pigs' fiasco... All his casino interests supported by Floridians vacationing in Havana were obliterated in the name of Communism... But none of that matters now... Castro and his sugar cane and tabacco empires will no longer be a threat when he dies... Also, Indian gaming has dilluted the infinite power of the 'Goodfellas' among us...

Because the people of Cuba are already much more free than many in the U.S. They (Cubans) have free education...free healthcare....100 percent literacy. Time to take notes..

http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/bm.htmli do hope for the liberation of Burma.
it is just that, in general, i don't feel that military intervention should be our first option in our efforts toward world peace.i also find sightseeing Caribbean capitals inadequate justification for all out invasion, but that's just me.
i ache for the liberation of tibet from the chinese, too.
maybe i could make an exception for Tibet?
